Didn't know he was still alive, thought I heard he chocked to death on a rubber ball in a German brothel.

It is the end of an era, in a good way. F1 needs to revolve for new fan base and the revolution of social media, broadcasting technology etc.

To be honest, Bernie E did a great job in the past promoting F1 in various commercial ways. To new venues, and locations. However in recent years the pendulum and balance of hosting fees and historical venues were horribly tilted to one side. Losing several historical venues and many were in threat.

We'll see how will the new management Liberty media will help to bring F1 to the 21st century. In terms of viewing and promoting, not just entertaining the top 1% fans.

As Bernie gets kicked to the curb...think we need to also show concern any time there's talk of "broadening the fan base" of our enthusiast supported sport. Typical approaches to improve, sadly include: adding even more events, dumbing down the rules and the commentary (making it easier for the non-enthusiast to "understand"), making more players/teams eligible for the "Grand Prize" and televising in more convenient time slots (read: tape delays). Other than the NFL, there's a bunch of sports that found when they turned their backs on their core, they faltered and actually lost popularity.
Then, back to Bernie, he always had the enthusiast fan in mind. We owe him gratitude for saving Formula 1 (yeah, and making it profitable), making it safe, mandating that those TV rights buyers broadcasted the race in real time, creating an atmosphere where countries wanted to be included in the circus, and keeping manufacturers and teams not only satisfied, but also in line. Did his ideas always hit the mark? Well of course not....but he did bring us umbrella girls (today they're flag and banner girls).
Obviously nothing and no one goes on forever, but what he nurtured and brought to us was something special.

Well said, the sport owes him. It's time for a change though, no 86 year old should lead an empire of this magnitude. The openness and sharpness of mind required to keep things fresh while also adhering to the core of the sport and traditions just can't be there.

You're referring to Max Mosley, former head of the FIA. Perhaps you may want to know what you're talking about before you post.

Initially Bernie did a great service to the sport, but for the last 10 years he has cared for nothing but lining his pockets. He certainly couldn't give a toss for the "enthusiast fan".

At this point in time he won't be missed and I expect the sport to become even better under the direction of Chase Carey; Russ Brawn, et al.

Time for Bernie to go. Bernie did have his moments. lol

Happy to see Ross Brawn taking up a post as part of the new management team.

Looking forward to seeing what Ross can do to fix the sport.

Good riddance. He destroyed the sport for me while taking all the profits for himself. I refuse to spent a single minute of my time watching that junk.

IMSA and FIA WEC are much more fun these days.

With his distaste of DRS, wonder how long it'll take him to get rid of it.

DRS will most likely stick around till 2020, unless there's a general consensus to remove it from all parties.

Good to hear today that Ross will attend some races.
Asked if he will attend the grands prix in 2017, Brawn told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport: "At the beginning of the season, for sure.

"And I will come to the tests because I want to see how the new cars look. We have a radical change of rules ahead of us and we should find out as soon as possible what impact this could have on the show.

"I want to be prepared for what awaits us in Melbourne," Brawn added.
