It is. It has eDrive on the front axle.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen. At least out of the box the Z5 will not have a performance based model, like the 35is. Instead you'll see engine/suspension variants dedicated to economy, or grand touring. Definitely not a "driver's car".

It WOULD be amazing if they made the Z5 drive, and feel as spritely as the M2 but I just don't see that happening.

As another member mentioned this looked like awd. I personally would hate that. But considering the new head of BMW is from Audi, and Audi sells more A4 cabriolets, and TT's than the Z4 ever sold, an awd Z5 would not be all that surprising.

anyways I'm glad to see more of the shape of the car now. It does have some S2000 resemblance which isn't bad, imo.

So I over laid the side shots of the coupe and roadster. Looks like the two will have the same wheelbase. The coupe "Toyota?" appears to have a little more of a over hang. Unless there is a fake bumper over the real unit.

So far so good, but I wish the overhangs were shorter.

BUT that depends on when the camo is gone.

Japan’s signature auto show, the Tokyo auto show, was a must-see extravaganza of the country’s future sports-car ideas and eccentric concept cars throughout the 1990s. Then, as the Shanghai and Beijing auto shows grew in prominence and Korean cars started eating into Japan’s global market share, the Tokyo event lost its luster, dropping to second-tier status on the international calendar of car shows. And there it has stayed for the past decade. (It doesn’t help that the show is held only every other year.) But that won’t be the case in 2017, in large part because of one debut: the Toyota Supra concept.

The Supra concept leads a show-car trio from Toyota that also will include, according to the Japanese magazine Best Car, Toyota’s S-FR and Corolla GTI concepts. We first saw the next-generation Supra’s design direction when the company unveiled its FT-1 concept in January 2014, and the final product will take strong styling hints from that car, as the rendering published here shows. The final design is a collaboration between Toyota’s headquarters in Toyota City and the company’s Calty studio, located in California.

Co-developed with BMW and using the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the upcoming Z5, we can expect to see the Supra powered by Toyota’s own 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a flagship 340-hp turbo 3.0-liter V-6 married to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 2.5-liter hybrid is expected to join the lineup a year after the launch in late 2018. Although still a concept, the Tokyo car is described as very close to production.

The BMW Z5, on the other hand, will employ the German company’s turbocharged inline-four and straight-six powerplants and incorporate special lightweight carbon-fiber technology borrowed from the i3 and i8. It’s slated for a Frankfurt auto show debut in September.

lol, I think xDrive is an option but you would get better performance from xDrive than you would with RWD. You can make up the loss of performance from weight by doing a small power tune.

New renderings of Toyota's version.

Tried to clean up their rendering a little bit.

BMW's Product Plan Includes Over 25 New Or Updated Models By 2021

http://www.carscoops.com/2017/02/bmw...er-25-new.html

Quote:
BMW is planning a host of Life Cycle Impulse (facelifted) models and a selection of all-new products in the next five years.

Auto Motor und Sport has learnt that no less than 28 new or refreshed BMW models will hit the market from now until 2021, kicking off with the global launch of the new 5-Series Touring at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Soon after, it is reported that the BMW 5-Series GT will be replaced by a 6-Series GT borrowing technology from the latest 5-Series. The 6-Series GT will be approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the equivalent existing car and be offered with four, six and eight cylinder engines with power ranging from 190 hp to 465 hp.

Also this year, the BMW X2 will debut and initially be offered with the same small petrol and diesel engines of the X1. The next-generation X3 will also bow some time this year and be the brand's first SUV model using its CLAR platform. This platform will also spawn the long-awaited BMW X7, set to be constructed at the brand's Spartanburg plant in the United States.

Things will continue for BMW throughout 2017 with the all-new M5 and M2 GTS to both launch in the second half of the year. We already know that the M5 will benefit from all-wheel drive and will have a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering over 600 hp. The M2 GTS on the other hand will get an uprated turbo'd 3.0-liter engine lifting power to the 400 hp mark.

Next year will also prove rather fruitful for BMW particularly with the launch of the Z5 sports car, currently in development with Toyota alongside the next-generation Supra. What's more, the famed BMW 8-Series will be resurrected in 2018 and directly rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. It will give birth to a Cabriolet variant in 2020.

Before that happens, 2018 will also see the debuts of the next-generation 3-Series and X5.

When my lease is up on my i8 in November I'm going back to the dark side. If BMW made an SL competitor, I'd get the BMW sports car. But BMW won't. On the other hand, I don't have to limit myself to an SL. (I had 3 in the 1990s.) This is what I'm going to get.

I'll keep the M4 too. For the laughs and the 2 extra seats.

Would be truly amazing if this Z5 was an AMG GT/911 competitor but that isn't happening huh...

That AMG GT is awesome but without manual it's a no-go

Holy rotor size!

Anyone notice the humongous rotors? I've owned cars with wheels smaller than those rotors (15'' Miata track wheels).

Car looks like it's got great brake power. Question is - what's the curb weight on that if it needs so much brake? I'm guessing over 3400lbs.

The Mercedes shiftronic that I had on my CL55 AMG sucked. The DCT on my M4 is sufficient for me. I'm a geezer.

Incredible move. It's an almost flawless machine. You will love it. Hopefully you are going for the gtc and not just using that picture as an example.

Bmw has totally and utterly lost the plot with this type of car.
