265/35 vs 275/35 vs 285/30 on 9.5 wide wheel

First of all, let me apologise for gate-crashing your forum - I must admit this question isn't about 1M's but you guys are typically corner enthusiasts and will run similar width tires at the front, albeit in 19"

I'm actually asking about the F13 M6 which has 20x9.5" wheels stock at the front. I could run any of the options of 265/35 OE spec, 265/35 generic, 275/35, or 285/30. I'm only considering Michelin PSS in my analysis below, although by the time I'm buying tires it will be fair to say I'll be getting PS4S, they might change things a bit.

Obviously 265/35 OE spec is actually designed for to be on the front axle as a steering tyre, while the generic 275/35 and 285/30 are going to be generic tyres not specifically designed for the front or rear.

I'm also well aware that 285/30 on a 9.5" wheel, while it will have a shorter sidewall (possibly improving steering response and feel) will also be a bit fat on the tyre, which will reduce those qualities.

I've ruled out 285/35 due to it being quite a bit bigger in rolling radius that the rear option which will affect stability control by making it cut in too early and it will give the car a weird look with the front tyre being a reasonable bit larger than the rear.

According to tire rack, the tread width for the 265/35 OE is 9.7", while the generic is 10.1", the 275/35 is weirdly also 10.1" (all these three measured on a 9.5" wheel and finally the 285/30 is 10.2", but measured on a 10" wide wheel. Hence on a 9.5" wide wheel the actual width might end up being similar.

I'm not worried about aquaplaning, I'll be running 265/35/20 up front in the winter in NZ - we get plenty of rain here (but nothing below 5C/40F)and the Yoko V105's are my preferred rain tires.

Thoughts on what will be the best option for overall response and handling characteristics on such a large and heavy car that needs all the help it can get up front?

I have some 285/30s on an 18x 10 wheel. Love them. Wouldn't recommend trying a 9.5 but that's in 18 so .. no clue about the 20s.

A number of cars have come with 285s on a 9.5" wheel such as the E60 M5 (285/35/19) and the current RS6 (285/30/21) and it is within the recommended widths for the PSS 285/30/20 so I'm sure it will work fine. But I'm just not sure which tyre will be the better option on 9.5" wide rims.

265 35 18 will give the best response at the front.
285 30 will roll a bit on 9.5" and will transfer a lot more road bumps through.

I used 275 35 18 Hankook Z214/Hoosier R6 grooved radial slicks on 9.5" track rims on a very heavy car FG XR6T for years/many sets and it worked well. They are a narrow 275 though. Ideally in a rwd car a little stretch on the front is always a good thing for steering response.

As it's for road use, have you considered a stickier road tyre like an RE71R instead?

Thanks! There isn't much in the way of high performance tyres out there in 20" which is a bit unfortunate - apart from the Michelin PSC2 but they are quite expensive, don't last very long and aren't good enough in the wet, out climate here even in summer is like Tasmania

I'm thinking that I could run the M5 rear 20x10" on the front which will help out with running 285's at the front.
