Small world, I hit the tires a few hundred feet away from there in my evo last year Here's my crappy cellphone video. Fast-forward to 15:00 mark to see my track day turn into a rally

^^ I actually drove it home 2-3 hrs after that, and DD'd a few weeks while waiting for parts. LUCKY!

To the OP, damage doesn't look to bad. Just focus on getting back on the road and having fun. Be safe, learn something, and don't look back!

that's a bad place to loose control. very fast dropping turn. I always pucker up when I go through lucky the damage was superficial. which event was this?

Yeah you need to throttle through the chute to make it...lifting off in there not a good idea haha

yea, i knew better. It was my first time ever on that track, and my instructor abandoned me the day before so i was kinda left to figure it out on my own. That turn never gave me any trouble earlier, just took it too deep one time. I think what happened was i came in too tight and at the apex my right front wheel got up on the rumble strip just a touch. that cut my front traction in half and the car started plowing. I wanted to let off the throttle a bit to re-load the front tires and regain traction, but over-did it and gave up too much rear grip, causing the near spin/off road excursion

I was over-ambitious. My personal goal was to tie Marty Grand's track record in his SCCA T2 Evo 9. I was about 1.5secs off and just.... tried too hard

Yeah touching that gator, especially when its raining is a huge no no, but you have a lot of track still there to run out on. Sorry your instructor ditched, i know the feeling.

I woulda thought his time to be quicker than a 1:30 if you were running 1:32's in the vid...i run low 1:28's high 1:27's pretty consistently there on PSS street tires....and it looks like you were running a track tire setup in the pics at the end of the vid.

Yes, that bend is dangerous. I saw a brand new M3 get totaled in the advanced group, and the driver could not explain what happened. I'll bet he entered too fast and then lifted slightly, but after the crest you need to be accelerating the whole way to and past the apex until you brake. And as everyone said, if you touch the curbing you're fucked.

Well that's different. You're supposed to flip the car trying, get back in, and then break the record.

Had to look it up, but Marty was faster than I remembered - 1:23.690. 1:28.5 was my goal, but i guess i can't recall why. Maybe 'within 5 secs of the national champ/track record 1st time here'? meh, goals are bad I was recording my lap times using Trackmaster (awesome android app that uses GPS and accelorometer), which said I did a few 1:30 laps in earlier sessions

I was running Toyo R1R's. I had a set of Hoosier R6's with me, but forgot to bring the right lugs for the wheels they were on. Too bad, could have made the difference! I did run 1 of the R6's home, since the valve stem on the rear wheel broke during the crash. Otherwise, I could have kept going well... maybe after changing my pants

Yea, Phil has the unlimited record. Was just referring to SCCA T2 class record, which is closer to showroom stock than to what Phil's done with his car I think Phil holds the records at VIR, too. He's an awesome driver

Since this thread is about crashing at the track, did you guys ever see the video of phil's accident at VIR a couple seasons ago? His spoiler actually broke off while climbing the esses and he lost rear downforce! Talk about bad luck

Update on my own car:

mechanical work will be allot cheaper than I expected, about $400 with parts and labor. Still waiting on the wide body kit, no idea about shipment, will try to contact ER next week to see (should've been out this week according to them).

Will order hood, and headlamp next week also, was just shopping around, plus all the other extra little things. Then I leave for a week long trip to California and will probably have her ready after that, minus paint.

So not looking too bad.

for now, yes, going to give it a chance and see how it looks and if I warm up to it.

I think it may look strange with the whole front in CF and the rear in white. may look unfinished imo. you could always wrap it in white. this way the CF underneath is preserved. just a thought

I thought about that, I've also thought about adding a CF trunk at some point, nothing CSL, just simple CF. Weight savings, but I'm also undecided on that part, that's why I'm in no rush. I'm more concerned with getting her back up and running, then I'll figure out the rest.

I'm glad you're okay and your car isn't too roughed up. The way I see it is, you'll only learn if you crash or come very close to crashing.
