128i feels slower than 328i coupe
i used to own a 2008 328i coupe for about a year prior to buying my 2008 128i (non sports package). Both cars are automatic and both cars have the same engine. For some reason my 128i seems considerably slower than my 328i. I was thinking it is because the weight is balanced evenly on the 128i but that's a stretch. Anyone have any insight on this?

No insight from me, other than wondering if something is wrong with the 128. I spent a few days with each, and the 128 felt very quick, while the 328 felt like something ponderously slow and comfy, that I might suggest for my mother.
Of course, maybe something was wrong with the 328 I was driving.

I have both a 128i 'vert and a 328i wagon. They have identical 230hp motors, 6 speed manual transmissions and 3.23 differential ratios and they weigh within 20 lbs of each other.
However, the 128i (perhaps because of the ZSP and shorter wheelbase) "feels" quicker - especially when the top is down. Tom |

I wonder if that is why the 328 I drove felt so, meh, in comparison to the 128.

My car is a hell of a lot faster than my 328i now. Before when I would press down on the gas it would feel like my car was thinking about speeding up now it just goes. I put my car in DS and floored it at a stop light and I peeled out, which is the first time that has happened since owning the car. I def have to thank you 1000 times dude. Do you know how my transmission adaptations got to where they were. It seemed like it was in some type of gas saver mode. Are there any other tips similar to this that you have? |

Yeah, if you put in in "D" and go about your business it'll feel underwhelming. That's why I use the "manual" mode. It changes the overall feel positively cause that engine LOVES higher revs, which we don't really need in our 135i's. Try it next time and wind that NA 3.0 out. It sounds beautius. Silky, balanced, and screaming. Too bad the loaners don't typically have manuals to really get a feel for how good the NA 3.0 is. |

actually the transmission control unit and the torque converter have a "memory" (sort of). your RPM, Throttle position, etc etc etc etc are recorded and in some way averaged... lets say that you drive your car in traffic 10 miles each day to work, never getting past 35 mph.... then you take it out on the weekend to the canyons.... the car will shift / respond as if it were in traffic till it learns the canyons.... get it... The only draw back is that it takes a while for it to re-average itsself.. many miles... It is all done for economy reasons.. Feel free to reset at least once a month... there is no harm.. warning.. after a while you will feel no difference as you are now expecting it.. its slight changes, nothing major, but it is different, and it seems you like it.. Have fun..
