Seller claims the water did not get into the engine. So it's official. The 1M has a watertight engine.

Actually.. that's not so preposterous at all.. at least from the point of view of a person that handles many such claims a year.....

Consider..

-No disptick tube - BMW Win?
-sealed transmission - See above?
-sealed intake (presuming charge pipe is intact)
- intake is high up and on top of the motor
- fully enclosed intake air filter area (no open cone type filter)
-double VANOS on the camshafts handles control of intake and exhaust valves opening and closing
-the motor was OFF and not turning, so it's not as if water can be ingested into a cylinder
- water entry into the exhaust likely blocked from rising upward due to multiple catalytic converters and lengthy exhaust pipes and intake manifold plumbing

So.. yes.. I would agree.. it's probably not easy for water to get into an S54T with the engine off and a factory air intake.

Big difference between water fording and submerging an engine. In water fording the skid plate and front of the vehicle is pushing the water and the engine is not fully submerged.

Engines, trannies, and diffs are not water tight. Once submerged, hydrostatic pressure will push water through the smallest of openings. As the water level increases, the pressure increases.

I'd say ~10K would get that thing back on the road considering all the prts floating around in for sale threads. Not sure what the guy means by fresh water but that could mean no nasty smell... perhaps chlorine.

Fresh water and not salt water (as in, water from the Ocean) which would attack the metal and cause extensive corrosion
