BMW Power Kit

I'm considering the BMW Power Kit on my two year old 135i.
To those who yet have it installed: are you still happy with it ? What are the main differences ?

With the other mods I hade done at the time I was getting 346BHP with the BMW PP. Now I have the GIAC map on top and have 400BHP

I have heard that unless you get rid of the cats (with downpipes) you are limited to 380 (real) Hp. The exhaust can not flow anything more than that.

Doesn't the GIAC overwrite your previous tune? It's not a piggy back you know

Thinking about this power kit for mine as a first step for future mods down the road. Does this kit need to be installed by the dealer to keep the warranty intact?

Agreed. I don't think the Performance Kit tune is a base to which to add another tune. Even if you used a piggy back tune the piggy back module adjusts the signals to what it sets as a maximum regardless of what tune you have to start with.

Get the BMW kit if you:

1. Track the car and want the better cooling the PP kit provides
2. Don't plan to add any other tune
3. Like your warranty

I think so yes. And of course there is some software to download from the BMW server. So I think only the BMW dealers are able to do that.

My tuner did a flash tune for a German guy with a PPK on his 135i(two days ago). The PPK software has some anti-tuning software built into it. But he was able to crack it. Interesting enough, my tuner said my car (stock) drove just as strong as the guy with the PPK! And after the flash the engine really comes alive.

The latest SW update that BMW is loading on cars also has this same anti-tuner SW. But it is no problem for my guy.

A chipped/flashed car with the PPK does not get you any HP gains over a normal 135i. Only better cooling reserve. But even with a flash tune - you don't have any limp mode issues like some guys do.

That's the intention and warranty is important to me. Since 12 years I am a very satisfied client of the same dealer. In Belgium one can't get the Kit any longer as it has become illegal. But I can buy it in Germany. My dealer is willing to install it. BMW assures me warranty as it is an own product.

I ran a Vishnu Procede V4 over my BMW Performance Power Kit and it ran just fine, way more power. The difference was when I went back to "stock" for dealer visits and maintenance I still had more power than a stock 135i. With power kit and exhaust it put down 285 rwhp and 343 rwtq on a Dynapack in 80+*F heat. The cooling aspect is definitely worth it and I noticed the difference since I installed the performance steering wheel before hand.

You are correct, it overwrites the BMW PP map. But my "Stock" map when I switch back is the BMW PP SW.

I have the BMW Perf Exhaust too and I have 400 BHP and 415 Ft lbs on the dyno, so your 380 rule does not apply in the real world ........unless you are saying 380 ATW as I have 400 at the crank so if you take 12.5% off for drivetrain loss that equates to 350 ATW, so I could understand what you have heard if this is the case.
