Coding meetup sometime in Alexandria
So, I did get my software and cable working for most newer BMWs (Still can't read MINI R50, not sure about newer MINIs yet)
If folks want some free coding and to learn about the process a little, I would be happy to meet up. Either here in Old Town on a weekday evening, or perhaps Fort Hunt Park? I'd go to Kaites, but I haven't managed to get up early enough on a Saturday ye! (Katies gets started at 6:45am and to get a great parking spot for the Lotus, it needs to be there by about 6:20) |

Hey Mike; don't know about the coding but I am new to this site and in NOVA in general and would like to know whenever you go to Katies, I will definitely go with you if it's ok. Just trying to meet some NOVA folks. Thanks.

I'd love to see what you guys can code. I've seen a lot about coding, but never any mention of whether the dealers can tell the car has been coded, and whether they tend to give you a hard time about it, with respect to warranty work.

Kingstowne. That is a great idea. I have not been to one of those yet this spring.
It's a lot of kids, racers, etc. But there are often fun cars, just in general. Needless to say, the Lotus gets ALOT more attention there than my 128i! It is by the Chipotle right off Rt 613 (Kingstowne Blvd) If I am feeling ok on Monday, I might be able to stop by, or perhaps next Monday. I could show what I have done to my car, and help do a few codings for you all. As to dealers. I had a little feeler chat with an SA at Sterling BMW. When you code modules, they really have no clue what you've done. For example, my mirrors fold in when you click and hold the lock button. But a mechanic checking out the car would not even realize that feature was there. Likewise, pressing and holding the unlock button opens my soft top, but it is not something that is readily apparent. My welcome lights look different, as do my DRLs, but DRLs can also be shut off completely. Many codes, like the speedometer error removal are so subtle that most people would not even know. Others, like remote control pathway lighting are a little more obvious. My car is headed for some free maintenance soon, so we see. I also have a set of Blackline LCI Tail lights coming from Germany. (Very excited about them!) I have not decided to install them before or after my dealer visit. (They are a stock BMW part though, and come standard with the Blackline option, which my car has) Now if you do a retrofit of something for a car and change the Vehicle Order (VO) that is a different story. In that case, the dealer will know something has changed because the car VO and BMW's VO for the car will be different. Jorge, If I can ever manage to get to Katies, you are always welcome! It is an awesome display of exotic, classic, and antique cars. There are usually a few dealers there as well, with Lotus, Lamborghini, Fiat, Fisker and Aston Martin guys showing up on a regular basis. |

Mike I will definitely like to learn the basics on coding at some point. Will definitely catch you at my first opportunity. My daughter is getting maried this Sunday so that's probably not a good day!!! Been pretty busy with the pre wedding storm, once it passes through I will begin playing.

Hi Mike,
I'm interested in coding my 1M (auto-folding mirrors, seatbelt chime, amber delete, video in motion) - do you know how to do those? Also, I've never been to the Springfield meet, but it looks like that meet was kicked out of Kingstowne and now takes place at Hard Times cafe in Springfield Plaza: http://carlovedc.com/2012/06/hard-ti...field-meet-35/

I didn't even think that's what you meant by coding. If this is possible, I would LOVE to do that.

Gdubz, of course we can do the seatbelt chime! God I hate those things! I used to pull the whole sound module power plug in my old BMWs. Now it is just a matter of changing a couple of settings in the ABG module. My car, still gets the little red man on the dash when you aren't plugged in, but no more chime. I always wear my seatbelt, so it really isn't a big deal. As an aside, the new Porsches have electronic parking brakes now... The brake does not release when you want to drive away unless you have your seat belt buckled.

I'm a newbie, who recently got a 2011 128i, and I would like to try and enable a few things on my vehicle and learn more about the possibilities with coding... When is the next meetup?
