Wheel Newb... Insights?

Hi all,
I've got the stock 5 spokes on my 135 and frankly, they bore me. Knowing very little about wheels, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask about em.

The stock 18" wheels look small to me on the 1. Is the performance knock when going up to 19" significant? Can anyone recommend some good wheels for under $1200 that will "beef up" the 1er? Don't like LOTS of spokes or form over function wheels.

Thanks in advance

Single piece 5 spokes tend to be the biggest looking wheels for thier size. I havnt tried a one with 19's but i know it wont help performance. 18s might actually be too big for optimal performance.

Some 18/ 19 M6 replicas look good and big

Play around on tirerack.com to see various wheels on your car.

The amount of performance decrease really depends on the wheel. If you stick with some of the higher quality brands like Velocity Motoring and Miro, the performance will remain essentially unchanged because the weight of the wheel is about the same as stock. In fact, the car will have a bit more traction if you go with a wider tire setup in the front and rear. Just make sure to research the brand and model before hand to ensure they are JWL and VIA certified and within the 25-26lb range per wheel.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will stick with 18" and maybe just paint the stock wheels I have.
