Hi Gang,

Well… in keeping with my German Car Museum series… this little jewel is located in downtown Munich. It houses a lot of historical transportation items. Mostly cars and trains and trucks and buses. No planes. But one helicopter! lol

The museum consists of three big halls. The first two are obvious but that last new hall is kind of hidden. I almost kissed out in seeing it. That would have been a shame bc it was the largest and the best as far as what all was on display inside the hall. It also looked to me as if they are in the process of building a fourth hall to house more cars! So in a year or two it should be finished.

The museum is located in downtown Munich. Parking is tough, so it is best to take the U-bahn to the museum. Take: U4 and U5 to 'Schwanthalerhöhe' stop. You will be just a few meters walk once you exit the U-bahn. 'Schwanthalerhöhe' stop is only seven (or so)stops from Munich’s Marien Platz in downtown Munich. It wasn’t hard riding the U-bahn there. Plan on staying a few hours in the museum.

You can see more of my photos here:

Ok, Enjoy my pics. I tired not to over load the server this time around! :P
The photos were taken last weekend.

I remember this museum as being one of my favorites when I visited it in 1974!

Do they still have the sectioned U-Boot that you can see into? I remember there being fighter planes as well?

BTW, I thought MAN stood for MaschinenFabrik Augsburg Nurnberg?

The U-boat is at their main museum(Technik) downtown Muenchen - just one stop from Marien Platz. A few years ago they seperated the car stuff from the Technik Museum.

I think the only other place on earth with a real WWII U-boat is in Chicago and that one STILL RUNS!!!! The one in the Deutsches Museum has been de-motor'd - I think terms of the WWII surrender.

I am not sure now about what MAN means, now. A friend of mine in the "know" always told me that it was named after those three cities. Now I am not so sure! lol I have been to the MAN museum in Augsburg and they make sooo much more than just trucks. Like the first printing presses (MAN press predates the famous Heidelberg press) in europe/Germany.

YuP! I am on a mission! lol I just want to see as much as possible on my free time off.

Actually...
They have THREE museums im Muenchen. And a fourth one in Bonn!

1.) main museum - Deutsches Museum – Masterpieces of Science and Technology

http://www.deutsches-museum.de/de/information/

click the upper right tab for each museum.

2.) Deutsches Museum Flugwerft Schleißheim

http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/fl...t/information/

3.) Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum

http://www.deutsches-museum.de/index...hrszentrum&L=1

Deustche Technik Museum just one stop away on the U-bahn from Marien Platz (center of M). The museum is located on the Isar river there.

This is where I am thinking about going to see this weekend!

EFA-Museum
für Deutsche Automobilgeschichte in Amerang / Chiemgau

http://www.efa-automuseum.de/

It is about an hour South of Munich in the Cheimsee area.

I really appreciate that information! I've saved this info and on my next trip to Munich (hopefully for a M1/1M), I plan to see them. I did visit the Deutsches Museum on the Isar River last year, but missed the other ones.

Hey Dackel
I was in Munich a year ago this week for one week prior to getting my 135i at BMWWelt. The Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum is really a cool place to go and I loved seeing your pictures of it. I also hit the main museum, which I hadn't seen since 1989 (!) but didn't make it to the Deutsches Museum Flugwerft Schleißheim. Next time! Man, I do LOVE Germany! ...and not just for their amazing cars. Great country and people.

Hey @SpellBMW,

Yea... I seem to only go there every couple years - too! And I live over here!! I think everyone goes to the Deustche Technik Museum in downtown Munich. When I go there I like to walk across that bridge and away from the city. Then hang a right and up on the hill (by that Hotel) along the banks of the Isar river is one of the Paulaner Bier Gartens. It is where a lot of the locals go! It is right next to Siemen's HQ. Here is the address for your next visit.

Paulaner Faß
Lilienstraße 44
81669 München

The Deutsches Museum Flugwerft Schleißheim is really nice. It has been many years since my last visit I am sad to say. I should go there soon. I wanna meet Marco one of these days! Also... IF anyone goes to Flugwerft Schleißheim - you should also go see Dachau Cencentration camp. It will make you think about what happened in WWII. Dachau is just down the street from Schleißheim.

Btw... I did go to EFA Museum down in Amerang/Cheimsee. It is also very nice museum.
