Where to park in NYC
Question for NYC locals are frequenters.
Visiting family this weekend. Wife is pregnant so I'd prefer to drive instead of our normal BoltBus route. We'll be arriving after Weehawken Ferry stops running so looking for place to just park in the city. Family lives around W81st street. Sister-in-law was no help with this matter, though some of you might have experience. Thanks |

Do a parking garage search for the upper west side neighborhood. Plenty of options...pick closest, and cheapest...otherwise street parking can become difficult. |

I assume you don't want to park on the street? It shouldn't be very hard to find an open street spot, but you have to be okay with the risk of other cars potentially bumping into your car. Alternatively, there are a number of parking garages on 83rd street.

Thanks for the feedback, chances are we'll take my wife's Jetta, leased, so I couldn't car less about bumps or scratches. Though if options look relatively safe, I'd prefer to take the 1er.

Park nd locks are a good idea if you can find one up there. The valets in this city beat on cars and they also will start em, move em ten feet with a very heavy foot, and then turn em off

If you need to be able to get out of the city quickly, one of the best places to park is the Port Authority garage. That may not be an issue for you on a weekend, but the advantage is you exit straight into the Lincoln tunnel. I'll be there with Baby tomorrow.

Rent a car and park on the STREET! No worries with a rental car. :-)
last time I was in the "city" in 2004, they wanted $86 per DAY to park your car in upper Manhatten. I wonder what the going rate is now? |

$28/day at the Port Authority. You just have to get in early or it fills up.

There are many, many lots with $20-25 early bird specials.
