Its supposed to close at higher rpms in closed loop operation (not WOT)... But everyone seems to have conflicting reports... I can honestly say driving around right now sounds like I have a REAL mild exhaust not loud at all, just a little more grunt starting off from stop etc.

Not just idle or whatever in anycase, who cares. its like a 5 second mod, if you dont want to do it, dont.

So I did the mod last night, took 2 minutes max. The one thing I did notice was the deeper tones at the low RPMs... but there *almost* seems to be a little drone when you're cruising on the freeway. Not exactly a bad thing, but I can definitely hear the exhaust when I'm even slightly on the gas going 65. Anyone else notice that?

it is totally worth it. doesn't cost a cent and several people have asked me if my exhaust is after market just from hearing it.

I would just do the mod and see for yourself.

The difference is so little that I doubt a sound clip will pick it up:iono:

Well, I ran this "mod" for about two months and could not tell much difference. I put it back to stock and it seems that the valve is only closed for the first minute after a cold start. After that my valve is open all the time anyway so this mod makes no difference.

So like I said, this mod will not show up on a video camera very well IMO.

Exactly how does this mod on a 335i show up on camera when their exhaust is totally different then ours:iono: 335i's have dual exhaust systems. Do they even have these valves?

Anyways, it seems that this mod either varies on each car or each of us have very different levels of hearing

Thats how its supposed to be, it will be open during idle. It will close when you start driving, thus you will not be able to see it closed.

I dont understand why this thread is still active... if you are adamant about it not being closed, or not making a dif... dont do it! It takes literally like 1min and MAYBE 1$ in parts? I mean if you dont want it, dont. try it! I wouldnt say its noticeable with a camera etc...

just do it or dont... but the commentary about when the valve is open or closed etc is pointless. It is absolutely diff disconnected, just not a HUGE diff.

Then again, we are on a discussion board?? :iono:

If you don't want to read it, then don't read. Some people post honest concerns and/or debates. And whether they're as knowledgeable as a BMW tech or a complete noob, this may be a good read for them.

umm, mine is closed at idle, and only opens above ~3000 rpm

in fact, when I did the mod the very first thing I noticed is how much different the car sounds at idle

After fitting the custom midpipes I reconnected the golf tee mod back to stock.

Became a bit too loud and droney with the golf tee mod.
