I don't know where you should buy the parts, but after you install a BMW SSK, it takes about 5 seconds to snap the stock knob and boot onto it.

Thanks. I was not sure if it works just like you said. But that is just great! I really hate alcantara after my S4 full alcantara interior.

Are you talking about the OEM BMW PERF SSK ?

If so, TischerBMW aka getbmwparts.com should give you the best price

Yea but if I understand correctly they are offering for 375$ full kit with alcantara boot/knob I don't need last two pieces. So would be nice to find good price w/o them.

As Dan@United has said in the past... there are two options.

1.) Order the BMW Perf SSK (short shift kit) kit. $570 ?

2.) Or order the same parts, one by one, ie not all in one kit, but each part separately. This is the cheapest way. I think less then $275ish.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...80&hg=25&fg=95

Send Dan a PM and see. Or ask your local BMW dealer to price the parts separately.

Btw... I suspect part #5 (on RealOEM) will make most of the shifting feel difference.

Thanks David. I will try one shop which can offer better price than dealer. So which exact parts do I need 4.5.6.7 or just 5.7 ?

I think you will need: 4, 5, 6, & 7. Maybe ask Dan@United?

as for #6 you will probably need to buy a bag or ten clips - bc bmw does not sell the small stuff (screws, clips nuts, ect) in one's. You might even need a few of those clips anyway. They are cheap anyway.

Part #5 will effect the shifting most of all. Part #7 is what changes the side to side movement of the shift gate. #5 is what effects the shift throws. IF you really want to do it on the cheap... I bet you could just get by with #5, #4 and #6 (clips).

Had it installed last week, best mod for driving enjoyment .

However, I found my shifter to be tilted to the right now. I quite like it, but is yours the same?

RimasRS - did you ever find the correct SSK parts? I was asking at my local Zentrum about the SSK parts:

E82 BMW Performance short shift kit

25110444657 Shift Kit 280 euros w/o the German 19% sales tax

Or….

25110434218 schaltarm/shift arm
25110434217 schalthebel/shift arm-lever
25111220600 lager schalthebel/plastic bearing for lever
25117571899 scherungsclip/safety clips

E46 ZHP 6MT leather oval shifter knob (same as the 1M uses)

RealOEM lists two possible knobs??? ($70 each)

25117896886
25117896884

My BMW dealer says they will charge one hours labor @110 euros per for the SSK install.

Well price is very similar like my dealer offers. But I still can check one place where sometimes I'm getting oem parts and sometimes for half of the price compared with dealer. Will inform you.

Update: Just send the request on all part #

Today I order the BMW Perf SSK parts seperately. They are marginally cheaper this way and besides I did not want the alcantra bag or Perf knob.

25110434218 schaltarm/shift arm
25110434217 schalthebel/shift arm-lever
25111220600 lager schalthebel/plastic bearing for lever
25117571899 scherungsclip/safety clips

total cost: 215 euros

I also ordered the 330i ZHP (aka 1M) oval shifter knob: 25117896884 for 63 euros - it has a six speed diagram with a M-logo on it. I am not 100% sure of this part number. I will post/confirm when I get teh shifter installed on Monday. Should be under one hours labor for the total SSK install.

Perf SSK - INSTALLED! :happyanim:

Yesterday I had my SSK installed at my local BMW Zentrum. I had thought about doing this myself... but the last time I installed a SSK on my e36 it was kind of tedious with some LONG stork needle nose pliers and lots and lots of patience getting those darn PIA clips back on. Plus... my guys at my dealer quoted me less than an hours labor for the install... and I could not refuse that offer.

Durring the install they had to drop the front exhaust pipes to gain better access to the underside of the shifter. Anyone doing this on thier own might buy two spare front exhaust gaskets just to be safe. I did not want the alcantra leather shift boot nor the stuby shifter. SO I ended up ordering all the parts seperately. Plus it is cheaper this way too.

I was also a little concerned when I had read old posts that installing the Perf SSK would change/tilt (to the right) the gear shift pattern. It DID NOT! The car's shifters works just like before... but with a very tight feel to it. The gears just click into each slot. The throws are very short. Someone measured thier SSK throws before - and said the throws were 50mm (stock was 80mm for N54 and 70mm for N55's). Well... I measured my SSK throws and they are 55mm or 60mm.

That doesn't sound like much of a change, but boy does it make a world of difference. Hands down the best mod next to the CDV delete! It is that nice! The car really should have come with this standard.

Here are some pics. For the time being I am using the M pak shifter. But I did buy the ZHP shifter from a e46 - this is teh same shifter knob that the new 1M uses (I believe). BMW part number: 25117896886 price 45 euros.

Perf SSK parts needed:

25110434218 schaltarm/shift arm - 121 euros
25110434217 schalthebel/shift arm-lever - 55 euros
25111220600 lager schalthebel/plastic bearing for lever - 7 euros
25117571899 scherungsclip/safety clips (two needed) - 1 euros

18307553603 dichtung/exh gaskets ( two needed) - 19 euros for two.

total cost: 203 euros + 89 euros labor for the install = 292 euros

ZHP e46 shifter
25117896886 shaltknoff/shifter knob - 45 euros

I was quoted $111.77 for the Shift lever part # 25-11-7-581-806. I didn't want the alcantara boot and knob. Am I missing other parts?

The 25-11-7-581-806 part is the OE shift lever. NOT a SSK part.

Perf SSK parts needed:

25110434218 schaltarm/shift arm - 121 euros
25110434217 schalthebel/shift arm-lever - 55 euros
25111220600 lager schalthebel/plastic bearing for lever - 7 euros
25117571899 scherungsclip/safety clips (two needed) - 1 euros

18307553603 dichtung/exh gaskets ( two needed) - 19 euros for two.

total cost: 203 euros + 89 euros labor for the install = 292 euros

IF you wanted to do a SSK on a real budget... I guess you could just do the shift lever and a new bushing from the above kit:

25110434217 schalthebel/shift arm-lever - 55 euros
25111220600 lager schalthebel/plastic bearing for lever - 7 euros

But... the BMW SSK is such a great designed package... I would highly suggest you spend the extra bucks on the entire kit I listed above. The shift lever is soooo nice and tight. The shifting effort is slightly higher... but that is to be expected. I have NO TROUBLE engaging gears. Not even reverse like with some SS kits. And the shift pattern is still in the same arrangement and plane. Nothing has changed, just that you don't have to move the shifter as far back and fourth to change gears.

I would rate this FIVE out of FIVE stars for a fun mod! Its really a fantastic mod! Right up there with the CDV delete mod.
