M2 for me. Seems like a properly sorted chassis.

driven both and both are pretty similar

buy a m2 if
you want a new car
want a factory warranty
want more tech
want more refinement
not worried about depreciation

buy a 1m if
you dont care about the age of the car
want more of a raw feeling
bragging rights haha

As someone who owns a 1M and just drove a bunch of tuned 135s, a stock 1M, and a fairly stock M2, in twisters and at autobahn speeds, I'd buy the M2. It was very quick, effortless driving and overall intoxicating, especially with the M Performance exhaust. Total win for BMW!

...just think about the day you sell it before you buy either one.

I don't think you can go wrong with either and arguing about which is better is not worth the energy.

I have not driven an M2 but I love my 1M and it sounds like the M2 is an improvement in many ways. IMO both cars will hold their value better than most other cars and both have potential for appreciation in the long term.

Thanks for the inputs everyone! Much appreciated on the different perspectives.
Money is not really the issue, but the enjoyment and usage.

Will post when the wheels arrive!

1Μ without a second thought. Better value and the car's lines scream BMW!

I love my VO!

Looks
Like Chris Harris votes 1M.

So who's friends with Chris? http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1304988

What did you decide?

You can't go wrong. The only difference is the rarity of the 1M. I love my 1M and have only seen one other in the wild the past two years. This past weekend I saw three M2s in Chicago and Cleveland. I gave the drivers a thumbs up but I was in Ford Focus RS....another car you should consider (Winter is coming)!

1M wins again? Skip to 7:55

M2 review

"I think I wanted the M2 to be more like its raucous older brother, the 1M, with whom it shares the same mum but different dads. While the 1M is older, it's the jealous and rebellious type that runs away from home every other week...It's the bad boy that gets all the girls..."
