Winter Wheel Options?

Will 17" or 18" 1 series wheels have the correct offset & brake clrearance to run on the 1M? I thought picking up a used set would be a cost effective way to aquire wheels for winter tires.

Looking into the price list,

in Germany, You can order Winter Wheels as Accessory:

ZPY
18" Leichtmetallräder
M Sternspeiche 270 ohne Notlaufeigenschaften
8Jx18 mit Bereifung 235/40
2.343,–

Will be the same as on M92 M3s...

Other BMW Wheels might cause troubles due to the M-specific offset.

Best, Robert.

I've ordered those winter wheels. They look quite ok IMHO (and I got a good price for them, as well).

May we know how much you paid for and was it with or without tires?

If they come with, then are they Pilot Alpine's? I'm interested you see

They're with tires (Michelin Pilot). German price is used to be 2'343.- € (with tires), I got it for about 1'900.- €, but only because my dealer is a very nice guy.

Indeed a good deal considering 4 Pilot Alpine's cost € 980. So you got the wheels for about € 900. I hope this " nice guy" also gave you a nice discount on your car ( 5% ???)

Yes, he did. It's actually even a little bit more than 5%, so you see he's not just nice, he's even very nice.

Garage List
Those 270M wheels are listed as winter wheels for both the M3 and 1M on Felgenkatalog: http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ (I can't figure out how to link directly to the wheel's page, but you can find them on there if you look).

Interesting, I didn't realize that BMW offered square wheel sets specifically for winter use. Makes sense, of course - just haven't seen them before.

all the winter wheel sets of BMW are square. Wider tires in the back are counter productive in the snow.

I understand that winter wheel sets are meant to be square (which is why I said "makes sense" in my post) - what I said I didn't know was that BMW even sold specific wheel sets that were marketed as winter wheels.

I was looking for pics of other BMWs with those rims, but didn't find anything. But now I chanced to see this vid, should be exactly those rims (since they are available for the M3):

They really look quite ok for winter wheels/rims IMO.

Winter tires and wheels in France

In case anyone is interested, I have a set of 235/40-18 Dunlop 3Ds mounted on wheels (A7) that I won't be bringing back to the US when I leave Paris. Tires are W-rated and have 85-90 percent tread left. These are fantastic for ice/snow, and also for high-speed runs during winter. Wheels are in great shape with a couple of minor scratches. These are an exact fit for any M3, and it looks like would be an exact fit to 1M. PM me if you are interested (I don't think too many folks in Europe check the FS side).

Maybe somebody knows if there is a small brake kit that fits on a 1M, so I can fit 16" wheels with studed rally tires and can have some winter fun on a lake, that would be something.

For US owners

For the US cars, we don't get the accessory option. Would these work? (According to TireRack they do fit on the M3, so I am assuming it would be the same for 1M unless the bolt pattern is actually different, but I was under the impression that we have the same exact setup as comp pack of M3)

Breyton Race GTS-R 19x8.5 front with Continental DWS 255 35 19 Z rated
Breyton Race GTS-R 19x9.5 front with Continental DWS 275 35 19 Z rated

Total cost would be around $2600-3000 with mounting of tires.

The wheels look very similar to the stock wheels and the size seems to be exactly the same as well except for tire sizes and DWS is not bad as I am currently using it on my SLK55 AMG and they work in snow with minimal compromise.
