Runflats making loud noises
I have the original runflats on my car, but on CCW's.
The wheels are only slightly wider than stock. 7.5 front 9 rear. There is not much stretch at all. Here is my problem: I am getting a noise from my front driver side tire that sounds exactly like turning your tires on a tiled floor, or a garage floor with the floor paint on it. It happens only when a certain part of the tire is rotated so the weight of the car is on it. I brought it into my dealer because I thought it was something other than the tire making the noise. They said it is because "I stretched my runflats, and the tire bead is moving around on the wheel, and that is just the way it is." That does not make any sense to me, given the fact that the other 3 tires are just as stretched.....Anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? It is driving me insane |

There is no uneven tread wear, and these tires have roughly 5xxx miles on them... |

Both factory wheels are 7.5 & 8.5 wide. What size tries do you have? What is CCW's ?
You need to swap your wheels to another car to see IF it is really your wheels/tires. |

Swap them around (L-R, R-L) to see if it will do the same on the passenger side.

My guess is they answered it for you at the dealer. From my experience, run flats are generally louder than normal tires (I believe most will agree) and then the fact that you stretched them onto the CCWs, you are probably going to experience more noise and more issues.

The car gods are punishing you for run craps. Repent! The end is near.

well i swapped the fronts, still making the noise. i had a friend drive the car very slowly as i walked next to it, and all 4 tires are making the noise. I put my finger on the sidewall as the tire rotated and when the tire was on the ground, the squek happened and I could feel a vibration through the sidewall as the noise happened.
I put some more air in the tires to see if it will help at all, so I will see in the morning and report back. |

That's a pretty high psi. I wouldn't recommend running it that high. Make a quick video that shows off the squeaking. I'm really curious on what it sounds like.

Why not run it that high? The max psi for the tires is 51. The noise is starting to go away but I will see if my camera can capture it.

If your cold tire pressure is 46 you could easily exceed 51 psi warm... Your pressures are too high but i doubt that the problem. Are you sure you have no rubbing anywhere? Are you sure the tire isnt making contact with the shock on the back? |

The noise goes away with higher tire pressure. Absolutly not rubbing on anything. Plenty of room everywhere. Tires are filled with nitrogen, I thought temp didn't affect nitrogen?

"Nitrogen is a gas and is still affected by changes in ambient temperature (about one psi for every 10° Fahrenheit). Nitrogen filled tires will require pressure be added during the fall/winter months as ambient temperatures and tire pressures drop. Nitrogen is good but can't change the laws of physics."

I think part of the cause of the noise was the tire pressure. After I got it back from the dealership, I checked the psi. It was at 32. So maybe there wasn't enough pressure on the bead of the tire, causing it to move which is what caused the noise. |

Tire pressure will not cause tire noise. What is causing the noise is your tired are worn. Cupped. My RFT tires did that while they still had some thread life left in them. Your best bet is to just buy four new tires. The sound that the tires make is the sound of a bad wheel bearing. RrrrRRRRRrrrrrRRRRRrrrrr type noise that increases with vehicle speed.
