Exhaust
I've been reading up on exhausts for my new (to me) 08 135i. The BMW axle back exhaust is $1250 from my dealer, the Magnaflow one is $536 at Amazon-up to $850 elsewhere, and I've found others too, all ranging in price, but all are a LOT of money.
Craigslist there was someone selling a straight pipe, basically the stock pipe with an extension and stock dual tips for $500. I just got back from my local muffler shop (Johnny Franklin Mufflers in Santa Rosa CA.) and they installed a very nice straight-through Magnaflow muffler, welded in place onto my stock pipe for $340. The sound is as good as anything I've heard so far (IMO) after watching and hearing just about every Youtube video of every brand exhaust, not frappy or ricey, just a nice deep growl, the drone is not too bad, but I wanted to hear more exhaust sound anyways, and it sounds great. I think this option is as good or better than spending a grand or more for a bolt-on version of the same thing. I would think that any good muffler shop could do the same thing. This also shaved about 30 pounds in weight (the magnaflow muffler is VERY light). I'll post pics soon, the underside looks WAY cleaner, unfortunately I don't have a video camera so no sound vids. WOOPS! I just realized I posted in the 128 forum, I meant to post this thread in the 135 forum, although I think it is relevant to both models. Maybe the mods could move this posting to the 135 forum, or I can just repost there too. Last edited by mike the snake; 10-05-2011 at 05:48 PM.. |

Yeah, I'm thinking of changing it back to the dual tips. Easily done. I saved the old muffler for just that reason, and the shop said they'd switch the tips back for just a couple extra bucks.
