IMO the carbon fiber looks the best on BSM.

I agree. I think it looks good on all 3 colors and far better than the original spoiler. I was just saying I think it looks best on the BSM. JMHO tho!

Dan, as you mentioned earlier the OE trunk spoiler creates some down force but it is "unmeasurable". And anyone who takes the 1M over lets say 180- 200 km/h for more than a few seconds knows that we need all the downforce in the world since the car has lots of lift at the rear (Sport Auto Super Test confirmed this). After installing the BMW Performance spoiler did you notice any progress (cause it looks like it is better shaped and quite bigger than the OE lip spoiler) or is it still basically the same "unmeasurable" downforce we must be expecting? And why do you think that it has much less planted feel compared to an M3 (I mean it is much less planted than my former BMW, E90 330 Msport over 200 km/h speeds); is it just the shorter wheelbase, or much worse aerodynamics or the quicker steering is contributing? (I am not an expert but my guess all of these are factors). Thanks in advance.

Since the original hosting thread (by Robcut1) has vanished, here are the best 1M CSL style e82 trunk pics so far. For me they're so good that I now start to think 'what's missing?" whenever I see the stock trunk spoiler

Could be better if it would be lets say half the size or so, it is too big for a starter! Remember Jon Sibal's rendering of the 1M in 2010? That car was very close to actual production but had "finished" or real side grills and a small duck tail which would be absolutely perfect if they could add it in the production.

A spoiler roughly the size of the CF performance spoiler would have been ideal to integrate in the trunk csl style (iso stick on). |

Form follows function. IMHO, the size of the rear integrated spoiler when seen in real life is just perfect, especially when viewing in conjunction with a front lip, perfectly balanced.
Apparently, the 1m is a bit quirky at high speeds due to some rear lift. Like most track cars the solution is to add more downforce utilizing an airfoil. However, aesthetically, an extended front splitter seemed necessary to balance the additional rear extension. While a front splitter can create unwanted downforce itself, it is a crossflow design, therefore the hope is that it would be minimal. The new profile of the vehicle seems at least to me to be a bit more edgy, and gives the car much more presence, like the original M3. (I already know, the next critic is going to say "sir, your car is no original m3"). I am just explaining my opinion. In fact, BMW, when originally releasing their intent on the revised 1 series, provided the following direct quote: "The greenhouse with its characteristic "Hofmeister kink" is moved rearward and offers a particularly nimble look with its long hood. The short overhangs, long wheelbase and large frameless doors sit on a body with a striking shoulder line for a modern interpretation of BMW's characteristic look." I believe my car represents a concept true to what BMW was trying to address for the critics of the 1 series which was the "chopped" look of the rear end.
