Nailed - SCORED
Warning - Pissed off 1er about to rant,
Ok I am not impressed, 1 small nail in my left rear tyre and the tyre dealerships all want to sell me a New tyre, which has to be the same make as the other 3. Impact $650 A couple of independents did say they would repair after they look at it Internally and Assess - which is great , but the catch is they wont refit if they deem it not repairable. So they would then have to fit a new tyre, which means they have me at their mercy and my wife would have to take the car in, so i can guess how that going play out. So I have these really expensive crappy ride tyres that cannot even stand up to 1 small nail. Forget calling BMW as they just take the Legal line on everything instead of actually helping. There is something to be said for spare wheels !! Surely there is a better solution than the current RFT non repairable. Also can anyone comment on the facts surrounding the TPMS and having different tyres from front to rear (Non RFT ON REAR and RFT on front). Has anyone used Tire rack from the USA and successfully imported tyres?? Finally - if you have 1 x 245/35/18 RFT that is in reasonable condition and wish to sell it PM with the details ASAP. Perhaps i should have taken the Insurance - one could argue that their is another reason why BMW sell wheel and tyre insurance - they have so many cases like mine to warrant setting up a business for it Shitttty JD Last edited by 135BANDIT; 09-01-2010 at 02:59 AM.. I've enquired at numerous tyre places about repairs to RFT. All of them said they can't legally do it................however, they then generally ask how bad is the damage and where on the tyre is it, hinting that they will repair it if it's on the tread and not affecting the sidewall strength.
I've asked for a quote from TireRack............still waiting after five days.

i keep telling people Blairs Tyres at Peakhurst and no one listens, they have plugged my Runcraps 3 times.
tire rack were good to me when i got new AD08's. 1350 AUD to the door. also i wouldn't bother ringing tyre places asking if they will repair a runcrap, i doubt any company would say they would over the phone, just turn up and show them Last edited by 05C4R; 08-30-2010 at 08:52 PM.. |

I had the RFT's on my touring plugged 3 times. No issues. Castle Hill. $25 and u r on ur way.
As mentioend above - as long as it is in the tread, and not the side wall - no issues RFT's or non-RFT's it is all the same rubber right ? so why can't it be plugged. At least that is what the tyre place said to me. |

The reason they are non-repairable is IF they have been driven on for any significant distance with zero air pressure then the side wall of the tyre will be shagged. They'll get you home with no pressure in them but they aren't designed to run that way for extended periods. It's sacrificial, so to speak. Now if you can guarantee that the tyre has never been driven on with nil pressure then it's a non-issue as far as the safety of a plug repair goes. However, the lawyers have seen to it that no-one will take your word for it so it becomes a throw away item........Just in case. Sucks doesn't it? |

UPDATE
Firstly - Apologies to the guys at spinning wheel- they had to put up with a torrent of verbal from my gnarly wife who after crossing the harbour wasn't prepared for a no we cant repairs excuse due to small legal print on the sidewall. Anyway - they guys did a great job and all is well, i still have my immaculate spare and the run-craps are destined for eBay in another months time !! Pm if your keen on a few spares - going cheap. Lesson of the day - Run-craps are not worth the investment on any level !! JD |

I bought a BMW for the superior engineering , not because of some expected price/Value proposition. Just so happens they scrimped on the tyre selection. Perhaps you need some sleep. JD |
