Thoughts 335-135

Im currently in the process of selling my 2007 335i.. Ive had the car for about 2.1/2 years and have loved it.. I was just looking at the 2010 135s today online and noticed that the prices are awesome..

So what do you guys think? Will i regret it? I could care less about the size of the car so that wouldn't be a problem for me.

So far i have came up with some pluses and some negatives for the car.

The good
- Brand new car, i purchased my 335i used
- i can Finally get a 6spd car ( auto in my 335i has been driving me crazy)
- Same tuning potential
- Tad bit quicker then the 335
- seems more sporty then the 335

The bad

- Its not the prettiest car( but i will no doubt mod it)
- And thats about it

I have never driven one but hopefully will next week

Any thoughts?

Both are sweet automobiles.
Since you know how the 3 drives, go drive the 135i.

There will probably be an initial difference as your 335i is the N54 and the new 135i uses the single twin scroll turbo N55 engine.
At the moment there is more tuning available for the N54 335i.

The other thing to look for is the handling. I prefer the 3 series sport suspension as it's much better sorted all around.
The 135i sport is nice, but it under steers a bit more and doesn't hold a line as well.
Also, the 3 rides on a longer chassis, and the overall ride is a bit smoother, but the 135i still has a very nice ride quality that's even better with non RF tires.
I don't know if the new models are using next generation run flats, so it might be a bit different from my '09.

I like the looks of the 1. Kinda quirky but nice taught sheet metal, with the coolest looking rear end of nearly all current BMW's.
The 3 has more graceful lines that have a more immediate appeal, without the "acquired" taste of the 1's looks.

You might be surprised how much smaller the 135 feels. I bought a 135 without trying a 335 because I like smaller cars and I could afford a new one, which I thought would be more reliable. My 135 was towed to the shop with a transmission problem this morning and they gave me a 328 four door loaner. It feels a lot bigger. The 135 was sure the right choice for me, although at this moment I'm wondering if the DCT was.

I think my 128 is great looking. And the BMW Performance bumpers and side skirts make a 135 look great. People forget that BMWs of old were these quirky little boxy cars that handled unbelievably well. To this day, I think that is still true, and not a bad thing. Test drive the 135i, preferably with then suspension you intend to put on it, (stock, sport, M or BMW Perf). That way you know how stiff, or not it rides. Nthen make your decision. I would drive a new 335 ass well.

The 135i is quite shorter than the 335i, especially the coupe. Ever look at the 335 from the side? The doors seem tremendous and so does the trunk. Yeah, the 335 does look better and initially didn't like the 135i because the small back reminded me of the 318ti but the 135i has those 3 nice horizontal LED strips that look amazing at night. I say go for it, especially since you said the size wasn't an issue. The trunk is quite big too!

I did it

So I went from a 2007 335xi with step to a 2011 135cv 6sp. Yes, the car is a bit smaller but it seems most of the loss in interior size is in the back seat and trunk. I feel like I fit in the seat better, that is the whole car feels like it wraps around you more. I really like the new engine, especially on the highway. It really pulls strong in 6th gear. The exhaust note is great, especially with the top down.

Driving around CT, everybody has a 3, although the 1 is cheaper, I have gotten more compliments on my car during the first month I have owned then I did in 3 years with the 335.

Also, maybe I am just used to the rft, but I have the msport and I really like the suspension feel for everyday driving and the dunlops feel like they grip very well.

good luck

The exhaust note make it love the car all over again everytime I start the car! Here in San Diego, other BMW drivers ogle at me!

Two months ago I had the papers ready to go on a new 335i. As you can see, I signed the papers for the 1er.

No regrets at all. Love this car.

For clarity, the M-sport, sport, and standard 135i suspensions are the same.
For the 128i you can get the M-sport/sport (same) option.

There are only 2 negative aspects about the 135i when compared to the 335i (IMO).

1. Cheaper feeling interior (A lot more plastic in the dash)
2. Less confidence-inspiring suspension. (E9x "feels" more composed when cornering)

Other than those 2 things, I think the E82 is a better car in every other aspect. Looks are subjective and I happen to love the looks of both cars.

Same here, I had a 335i coupe before this and my 135i coupe gets way more stares and compliments. I think the fact there are so few here compared to 3's is part of it, but to me the look of the 135 coupe, especially from the side-rear is very sharp. Mine is Cashmere Silver and I never get tired of the color.

I like the Dunlop RFT's too. I suspect that the Dunlop RFT technogly is better than Bridgestone's.

It sounds like you made the right choice. Welcome to the 1er club!

Hopefully, Lee will let us know what the problem was which required it to be towed to the dealer.

I haven't seen many complaints on this forum, but I have seen a handful of threads on the M3 board about DCT issues. Some people were having issues with the DCT shifting, or only selecting gears from one input shaft (1-3-5-7 or 2-4-6).

he mentioned he's looking at 2010 models. those still used the n54.

TS- i say go for it! i've driven both extensively, and i chose the 135i. plus the 135i is a great car for the price.
