Just placed deposit on 2012 1M

I Placed a deposit on an 1m today. First in line at my dealer.

Info from my dealer about the new 1M:

Only 500 1M's will be sent to US, not even enough for 2 per dealership. Ordering expected in the Spring of 2011. Will be able to custom order from available list of options.

Can't wait. I love my 335i however compared to my Subaru WRX STi it feels so big and heavy. I think the 1M will be just right.

Anyone have confirmation on this 500 number? I know I will NOT pay over MSRP, and hopefully well below it.

Not sure I would call it a confirmation, buy my dealer said the same thing when I placed my deposit last month. They said 1500 total, 500 to the US. This was the info their GM received after going to South Carolina for the new X3 training/info. I also got the widely accepted info of MT only, 3 colors, etc.

My skeptical side believes that they used these numbers to get people excited and put down the cash deposit. It worked on me and they have my deposit money ~8 months in advance. Honestly, if BMW gets those numbers filled with pre-orders, you don't think they would roll a few more off the line???

I've been asking my local dealer for a pre-order and they have said they really don't know much yet and don't want to take pre-orders till next "closer to spring".

So, who's keeping tabs of all of these deposits?? What happens if more than 500 people put down a deposit towards this? I am starting to get skeptical with any dealer who can promise one of only 500...

If you don't get a car, they refund your deposit.

Garage List
Assuming the 500 number is accurate, I believe most if not the entire allotment will be pre-sold by end of the first quarter of 2011. A total of 500 cars imported to the U.S. corresponds to 1-2 cars per dealership.

Sure, BMW may opt to increase production near the end of the production run in order to squeeze out extra profit. However, we simply don't know what their real intentions are. So the consumer is kind of screwed.

Yes I will be paying MSRP however my dealership doesn't jack up the price above MSRP which may be very popular if the 1M is actually limited to 500 for whole US.

I am also looking to do an ED with the car even if it doesn't qualify for the ED discount, if it does all the better.

Congrats. You have to promise to keep us posted with, hopefully, pictures and driving impressions, especially if you do ED!

Congrats! I'm in the process of working with my dealer's sales manager on my deposit, currently there is no one in line so I am still at the (tentative head).

He also mentioned that there will be orange stitching and 500 units US and that the dealership may only see 1.

here in Canada, my dealer told me there were going to be 250units allowed.
500 for US sounds low...
Anyway I was able to leave a deposit a month ago and I am #3 on the list!
