"Finally, the production version of the M1 will arrive, early in 2011."

I am sure the following of the various Scott in the different forums that the M1 will be coming.

Everyone has been reading it wrong, as it actually stated the production version would be shown in early 2011. It is not saying it will be available from early 2011.

A little disappointed though as all M cars are shown in Geneva, but any information about lighter and more powerful is good.

Clearly the M8 is on that list but that was way before my time and I cant comment on how much the car was marketed before a decision was even made. The internet clearly was not what it is today.

I scanned this thread and I'm confused...the header says "No M1"...but on the home page it's accompanied by a very M1-looking car in a parking garage...Huh? Is it another PS?

Isn't it a little too early to get all worked up about the M1 potentially not being at Geneva? Doesn't the show officially open on the 4th and run through the 14th? I could be wrong, but maybe BMW is keeping everyone in suspense for a surprise unveiling of the concept while at Geneva. It wouldn't surprise me if they did, but if it doesn't turn up by the end of show we can all begin our rants.

A very very very big dissapointment about a brand which was sporty and nice to drive have race engines in normal shaped cars etc etc.

Just joined the BMW family in JAN/10 with a 135i and had been HOLDING out for the 135Tii which i had seen in the magazines many times ..It was discussed using a possible 4cyl turbo in excess of 300 to be faster than the 135i stock. In all the times i have seen and heard about this....i could not wait any longer so i bought a 09 demo at a substantial savings and will mod for a bit...
I am confident that a version of the 135i will come out as the Tii , just to make some additional sales, and keep the interest on this platform current configuration... till the new one comes out in 2013 or so....I would bet if the M1 is coming it will be after the Tii on this platform and the M1 in the next.

I think he just meant the rain will come before the end at Geneva part.

I'm able to share some information SCOTT thankfully provided:

It turns out that the BMW board members drove an M1 prototype earlier this week and asked for siginificant changes due to some problems affecting the car as well as changes to the car including more weight reduction and a new Brake Energy Recovery System.

If I understand this correctly, these changes will affect some of the power output of the car (read: it will get more power) which also confirms that an power boost for the M3 will be imminent in 2012.
Sorry but I find that very hard to believe, especially since no ///M model in the last 15+ years got a boost in power (in base trim) sure there was the CSL, but that was a different car than the base M3.

Anyways, hope the M1 will be at the NY auto show!!

Just because it hasn't happened recently doesn't mean there isn't a precedent, the E30 M3, E34 M5 and E36 M3 all got bumps in power during their life cycles.

Oh Gawd, the 1 is already friggen perfect for the street. Unbelievably fast, the best engine in the world under 75k, the 2009's and up have the best wheels, interior (simple, clean, with beautiful headliner), and a perfect balance of performance and comfort for street and long trips even. Heck, I've drove mine 300-400 miles per day for days with kids in back and we loved it.

You want an M, BMW offers the M3. That's always been BMW's best car - actually IMO the best car in the world - HANDS DOWN. But I can't afford one. Not everyone should. Remember BMW is supposed to be an elite/premium brand.

The 135i can surely be improved with LSD but I can't tell the difference anyway since I, like most owners, don't track it.

You forget the E36 M3 which went through a significant engine change through it's production life (both in Europe and USA), or the E34 M5 which also got a significant power bump in Europe midway in the cycle, or the E30 M3 which also had engine changes.

I would also observe that there is no absolute rule concerning this, BMW will do whatever makes sense and whatever the board decides, based on conditions at the time.

Now BMW, please show me my M1 now, I need to know if I should save my pennies or start modifying the M3 - no point throwing money at it if I'll get an M1 next year.
