Get a new windshield. It's probably covered by your insurance.

Actually you are very lucky
The result would have been much worse, costly and time consuming had that rock hit your hood. A windshield is a 100% fix. Unlike paint work where you can almost always tell it was done..

Sorry to read the dissapointing news. Better that than shattering but most upsetting anyway. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Feel for you bro, but the others are right. Call your insurance and get a new windshield. Should be 100% covered. It would be way worse if it was paint and metal!

I had the same thing happen. About a month old, driving on the interstate and a tiny rock or whatever "tink" and my son say look! A crack on the pass. side about 4 inches long. You could barely hear the rock. Called insurance and they sent out the repair guy. He said "i cant fix that because its cracked to the edge". he said call insurance back and since its a brand new car insist on OEM glass (needs the little bmw logo etc) otherwise you'll get an aftermarket windshield. It took a couple weeks to get the new one but had it installed last friday. Its perfect again ! ! insurance paid all. the guy left me a receipt: windshield list $272.00 net $158.30. labor $40.00 misc material etc etc total $243.10. From what I remember about the glass repair business i was figuring its an $800 windshield - those businesses have been ripping people off for years.
Incidently, the guy who did the install said the witness mark from the rock was sooo small he was borderline on sending me to the dealer with a "defective" windshield. That small of a nick should not have started a crack. FYI |

I see that you say that they are pretty thin and that was a concern of mine so now I am wandering do you think they would crack/ shatter if a rock was to hit them? __________________ Pretty eeeery, heh? |

Thin glass?

I got my first crack on an interstate during a rain storm, never heard the rock, The crack is roughly 8" long cutting across the rearview mirror. I had the car 4 days, I was on my first small road trip. I was so pissed it ruined my f****n week-end. I decided not to get it repaired right away because I had a long road trip planned for two week later, and thought what if I get another rock. You guessed it, a rock, from a truck, hit the windshield . Crack number two. I'm either driving too fast or these windshields are too delicate. |

Feel for you...just got a cracked windshield over the summer, had to replace it.
With a brand new car, however, I'd be inclined to replace the windshield if the hit is in your line of sight; because there's nothing worse to me than having to stare at that little reminder every day for the next several years. I was actually a little relieved after having my w/s replaced, because it was loaded with little scratches and pits. Good luck.

I feel for anyone who has scratches or damage to their new car as I felt so bad after this..
(vase dropped out of bedroom window above and went straight through rear window - new glass from BMW in 3 days - looks like new now apart from finding broken glass in the boot now and again)

Insurance doesn't automatically cover broken glass unless you specifically ask for it and you have to pay a premuim for it.

mkinley, did someone do that intentionally??
AW330i, sorry to hear that. unfortunately, things like that happen - can't prevent them. Still is annoying as hell though, i know. I drive on the freeway as well and there is all sorts of debris on the road. Just try to keep a distance from other cars and avoid poor roads with gravel if possible. |

Mine was an accident as well. Vase dropped from upstairs window sill.
Lucky for me I moved the car 10 minutes before - if I hadn't moved it would have hit the roof. BMW emergency services (UK) tuck it to nearest dealership who replaced glass.
