Aluminum/Black Interior Trim
The only thing I don't like about the car I just bought is that it has the "grey poplar" trim. I'd really like to either get black trim or the aluminum trim. I know I can wrap the trim, or buy each individual piece from the OEM part stores, but does anyone know if I can buy full sets of the trim with all of the pieces included?
Thanks. |

Start with a wrap. Easy to do and relatively cheap. I paid $60 for a 5' x 3' sheet of 3M 1080 CF to wrap my walnut trim. Took an afternoon.

Just finished it, I will get some pics up tomorrow as it is getting dark here. I tried to put one piece back a little too soon and had to redo it as I peeled a damp spot. It was easy to remove though to redo it. By the way, this is in my e90 not my e87. I love the full black interior now! I may suck this summer though! I need to get my windows tinted ASAP.

The one thing I really like about the Plasti dip is that you still have the the texture of the original piece but a new color. I really like it!

I did the 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap over my gloss black trim. I had a guy in an E92 M3 I'm friends with tell me it looked better than the original CF in his car, he was legit shocked how good it looked for a wrap haha

I have some brushed aluminum with a texture to it. No idea what it's called. I'll trade you for the grey poplar.
yours is similar to this, correct? |

I thought the same thing, but I had a bit of cf vinyl left over from a previous DIY & decided to try it out on our textured trims. The vinyl stuck well - and the 3D CF pattern blended in with any places where the textured surface was visible (primarily on trim edges). I ordered thinner vinyl (such as HERE) and finished wrapping the interior this past weekend and it looks great! I will say this vinyl does leave adhesive residue if you remove it (easily cleaned off with alcohol), so higher quality vinyl would be a better option here. I would highly suggest using a heat gun to help the vinyl form over curvatures - otherwise trying to overstretch the vinyl makes the trim texture show through. If anyone wants to wrap their textured trim, it is definitely doable. I've had the vinyl on for a few days now, and I can see no visible peeling so far.
