LCI tail lights
Hi,
Excuse my ignorance but I keep seeing threads about these LCI tail lights and I'd like to know what they are. I've got a 2008 135i with Xenon headlights and the led tail lights. Should I be upgrading? What are the advantages of these LCI lights? Is it just a cosmetic thing or are they brighter, do the brake lights come on more quickly etc? Cheers Jack |

Whether the LED tubes light up or not depends on how you set up things in the iDrive or BC menu. AND if you leave the headlight switch set in "Auto" or not. When you leave it in AUTO... the led tubes will light up and dim when lock/unlocking. LCI = Life Cycle Impluse It basically means the "face-lift" models. Early e82's had three LED bars. LCI cars have the two swoopy LED bars. Then there is also the LCI Blackline version, which has a dark tint to the tail lamps. These "blacklines" are only sold in the EU and do not have DOT type approval. A lot of guys here bought their blacklines thru mail order German BMW dealers. original e82 tail light... LCI blacklines...

Yes, the LCI tails can be fitted to your '09 135i. You can/should look at this LCI Blackline thread... Blackline LCI Taillight Group Buy *Feeler* http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...line+group+buy Xenon LCI blackline kit... #63-21-2-225-282 for 320 euros... http://www.schmiedmann.com/632122252...uctnumber.aspx I know the above #282 Blackline kit works on my car. Xenon LCI... (non tinted!! I believe these are the part numbers)... IF you want the normal LCI (ie not tinted) you can order those from any US BMW dealer... Have your dealer double check these part numbers. I am not 100% sure on them. #63217273427 #63217273428

ECS Tuning has the blacklines:
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...ght/ES2550272/ They're a little bit pricier there, but you won't have to deal with importing them/worrying about getting scammed. Not sure if they would be willing to put a group buy together, but they previously did something like that for OEM HIDs when I had my VW. |

I'm pretty sure that the ECS blacklines weren't the true blacklines. When I was researching who to buy from ECS's weren't as dark as the real thing, they just had the shape. They may have since restocked with them but I ordered from Schmiedmann in Germany.

For those in the US who bought from Schmeidmann, how did you fill out the customs HS-7 form? I have no idea which box to check that keeps me out of jail or fined!

Yep. This is what I did too. The FedEx lady emailed me the form and called me to explain what I needed to fill out on the form.

It literally takes ten minutes a side. Just pop the trunk, peel the liner back, undo three nuts (don't drop them), unclip and pop it out. Repeat for the other side.
