Long live the 135i

Hello everyone!
Well, it happened the other day. I ended up trading in my 135i w/t 12.700 miles for a 06 M3 10k miles w/t comp pck. I must say, i do miss that low end tq. The Atmo engine does not compare.

That's exactly why I bought the 135i instead of a M3, which even though over 20 grand more expensive with the financial incentives BMW offer on the M3 actually would have been only GB£100/month more than the 135i.

However, the more drivable and usable torque of the DCT 135i coupled with it's more compact dimensions plus the running costs here in the UK of that V8 with gasoline at almost the equivilent of US$10 per gallon, meant that the 135 was the winner.

I'll be keeping an eye on the spec of the next gen turbo I6 M3/M4 though

Upgraded foot pedals yes. Parcel net is on the passenger's side.
Toolkit was missing....getting it from them this week if we ever get power back. And the smokers package was...from the looks of it never used.

We were totally perplexed by your choice of options! Why no heated seats and yet spend the money on the smokers package and never use it?

When I found her she was in Morristown, I had it transferred to Ruxbury for me.

Also why didn't you ever "adjust" the hood so it sat flush? The same with the trunk? You guys know how to do that right? To adjust the height of your hood so it sit's flush with the front quarters and the trunk so it sits square with the rear?
I'm still looking for the fine adjust for the doors to counter the hang.

To adjust the height of your hood such that it rests flush with the front quarters of the car and to do the same with the trunk.
This may eliminate any odd rattles you may hear time to time from the trunk or the hood.

1) Buy beer, higher the quality the better!
2) Invite friend over to have beer!
3) Give friend a beer. Share, it's good karma!
4) Open hood of car, easily done one handed do not spill the beer.
5) Tell friend to sit in car, engine off...beer in hand.
6) Open the hood, look carefully you will see TWO black pucks screwed into the hood (one to the left and the other to the right located at the front of the hood). They are your fine adjust. Mark 0 on both.
7) Turn the puck counter clock wise to elongate it, clock wise to shrink it (insert shrinkage joke here).
8) Turn the puck NO MORE THAN 90 degrees at a time.
9) Close hood carefully feel the gap (insert joke about feeling the gap here).
10) If too high or low tell friend to pop hood and adjust until just right.
11) Repeat with the trunk.
You want it such that the hood is in tension, such that the pucks are in contact and are SLIGHLY compressed when the hood or the trunk is closed. This provided a positive lock on the hood and trunk latch.

This should have happened when the car arrived at the dealer...but it never does in the US. They just assume that we Americas don't care.
There has to also be a fine adjust for the doors as well to ensure proper alignment. Still looking for that one.

But I hope this helps. Also temperature can be a slight issue. Though the pucks don't expand much your hood may when she gets hot. Thus I recommend doing this with a warm engine such that when she cools down the hood is on nice and tight and when you turn her on there are no unusual sounds caused by the latch and the hoop rattling.

Not a fan of heated seats, they do nothing for me. Smokers package???? No such thing. That was not an option that i had a choice.
Adjust the hood/trunk? you must know things that we all here dont, or work at body shop and got mad skills for panel fit/gap.

BTW you got a PM.

No no I'm not a body shop guy, those guys are truly gifted in what they can do. I'm just a mechanical engineer who knows a few little things about cars due to his grandfather having worked for Langly Motors.

And in truth it's the little things that make some cars great and other cars...not so great. Case in point....where is the stinking gas door release? I know it sounds dumb but, it’s a very nice thing to have. Another very nice thing to have, lights on the vanity. If you have contact and have ever had one just go bonkers on you...you know how nice it is to have those pesky lights.

As with those little fine adjusts, a quick turn here and an adjustment there can really alter how a car sounds. After all who wants to say they spent good money to drive in a car that has a rattling hood or trunk?

But what I can say is that the 1 series I now have was exceptionally well taken care of. It was obvious that the first owner not only cared for their car but truly respected it. And for that I am grateful. I hope to enjoy this car for a number of years and I hope she will provide me good reliability as my daily driver. Oh and the old ladies in my complex, which is filled with old ladies may the lord above kill me...., think the car is "sexy".

Why do you need/want a gas door release? You push the gas door to open/close when the car is unlocked, and it doesn't work when the car is locked. I think that's about as easy as it gets.

In 09, the smoker package was standard in the U. S.. I don't smoke either and I have it in my 2009 128i vert. I use the ash tray for storage of little things and the 12V outlet is occasionally nice to have.
