17" Rear rims for drags

Hi,

I've been doing some homework on the best D.O.T drag rear setup and the Hoosier 275/40 17" seem to be about the best rubber that's available with D.O.T compliance which I require.

Does anyone know what the best option for a lightweight 17" rim that I could use would be that would fit an E82 135i with rolled rear arches?

FWIW one of the E92 guys got a 275 slick (hoosiers by memory) on a 17" oem msport E90 rim that's 8.5" wide.

I was under the assumption that the 275 would be too baggy on a 8.5" rim but he's been to the drags and had no issues

The trouble with the 135i is the limited rear fender space. IMO you could be looking at some serious fender work.

The stock offset of ET52 is only enough for 255 wide tyres in general with stock fenders. You will need offset larger than this fit the 275 drag tires, even with a heavy fender roll. There is a limit for high offsets too because the fuel filler tube, rear damper position, and subframe edges limit the space available on the inside.

For easily available wheels you can look at a set of second hand E46 style 68 M-sport wheels. The rear wheels are 17x8.5 ET50, but again you are going to need very significant fender work to fit 275 drag tires, if its even possible.
