Trapster: Find radars, cops, RBTs etc
Trapster, featuring GPS (on GPS-enabled phones and devices) and live community updates, will alleviate traffic issues when the police are out in force with speed traps, random breath testing, etc.
The system works like this:
I've just downloaded it onto my Blackberry Storm and it is good stuff. It can be quite cumbersome and slow to load onto maps when scanning around a city, however it does the job very well. The site is actually quite mobile and dynamic: http://www.trapster.com/ I did have some issues with registration & logging in, but that all seemed to go away after half an hour or so. NOTE: For people with Blackberries, the file type is a .jad, so you will need to download direct from your Blackberry browser at www.trapser.com |

I didn't find this to be terribly accurate when I was in Perth. Mostly relies on users to
report camera locations I think, but felt like there were lot more false ones, in Perth at least. Do you find it pretty accurate on your end of the island? |

It's pretty good. I haven't had a chance to trial it extensively yet.
However, you can 'negate' the bad ones, and the internal settings allow you to choose when you get alerts. Such as a high confidence (reported multiple times) Live Police Trap (radar/RBT), and not be alerted to low confidence reports or "Police Often Hide Here". Yes, the program relies on user reports. The settings however, act much like a good radar detector: the ability to filter results that will yield high false reports. |

That is true, the version I had didn't let you discern betweenthe 'quality' of the trap info. Just let you pick the types of trap you wanted to be alerted for.
Looks like they've made some huge updates in a year. |

Of course the system is only any good if people contribute. A new camera on the corner of Wetherby/Middleborough Rd and Doncaster Rd, Doncaster was installed about 4 weeks ago but is not on the database.
I agree with MickyD re the RBT, Wouldn't mind if this info was excluded.

Data roaming on the iPhone, is just an option that allows you to stop the data portion of your connection while you're roaming on another network, which can me very very costly! I've heard of bills in the 10K area for a few days, facebook really isn't your best friend when travelling! |

Tried it today, seems alright. But, does your voice warning come through your car's speaker, via bluetooth, or just from iphone. I would like to hear it from the car speakers. My stereo is too loud

I need to get a radar detector soon,i dont normally have a problem but i think there must be alot more multinovas around because i have been snapped about 4 times in 6 months, mostly 5-10 ks over on hills, its getting silly now,i was wondering if anyone has used radar.com.au in morley perth,i googled radar detectors and this name came up,went on the site and seems quite good, never had one before, any help on products and fitting(would like it hardwired if possible) would be great, thanks.

I do think you're right. Or perhaps we're not travelling where ever it is that they are putting them. My radar detector is very quiet most weeks and the last thing it warned me about was a laser (thankfully!).

I have never had much of a problem with multinovas or radars,i would go years without getting done and thats driving a v8 ute around every day, even now i dont have much trouble in the ute,but i have had the 135 for about 10 months and i have been done 4 times,it must be the way i am driving it,just having too much fun maybe
The cop that got me last time told me if you are keeping up with the traffic you are going too fast,i thought after he said it that if i did the speed limit everywhere i would cause a traffic problem, cars banking up behind me,i tried it the next day and sure enough it is near on impossible to keep to the limit without causing problems,it is more stressful keeping to the limit than not |
