Alufelgen 18" CS7 + lowered = Rubbing??
I just put on my new set of Alufelgen CS7's, with Yokahama S-Drive 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 tyres and am lowered on a set of KW v2's 30mm from stock height
Everytime I go around a corner (no matter how slow), the rear makes a loud rubbing sound, sounds like its hitting plastic. Ive attached pictures, do I just need to raise it a little, or are there ways to stop the rubbing to stay this low? I bought these as I wanted it to remain a performance car (allowing me to have spirited drives) but at the moment even little old ladies are passing me so I dont rub lol Last edited by micha3l; 08-13-2010 at 11:44 PM.. |

Thanks mate, I love how it looks too! Just hope I can get rid of the rubbing
Ive stiffended the KW suspension settings to 3 clicks away from hardest which has stopped some of the rubbing, but around corners or accelerating it still rubs |

Cheers mate. Ill take it to the suspension place through the week to see if they can adjust the camber to help out but I dont know if that will be enough, may just have to raise it 10mm |

the fronts would be rubbing before the rears in cornering (all the weight would be slung to the front end I'd think). Are all your coils set at the same heights?

The moment you start changing your driving style so that your lowered setup does not rub, it is not worth it anymore because you are just driving something that looks good but does perform as you would expect. Raise that thing a few millimeters and you should be good to go. Otherwise, you may have to trim underneath the fender whatever the tire is rubbing against. My $0.02.

indeed...just raise her up till it stops rubbing, looking at your drop it's pretty aggressive and a little raise should not deter from the looks at all

im not sure but i think 30mm drop is the minimum that KW V2's drop your car from stock.
I ordered KW V2's and waiting on them. This thread interests me since Im gonna drop my car 30mm as well and may be getting some new rims too. But im thinking the Offset may be a leading factor in the rims i get.. I want 19'' rims so im guessing i may have to get the closest to stock offsets as i can..

I got a answer for and its proven. "roll your fenders". trust me this works amazing.
I did it on a buddies 335i sedan with a 30mm drop and 19 inch BBS LM whels. Trust this is the best way to stop the rub. |

when you roll the fenders does it just modify the inside of the wheel well or make the outter(flat part) more flanged looking? If so , i dont wanna roll my fenders after i drop my car too

Hey Michael did you get the pic I sent to your phone? Mine doesn't seem to be that much higher than yours, about 0.5cm max. If it's still rubbing I would just look at raising it a bit rather than rolling your fenders. I will measure the distance from the centercap for you soon. I wouldn't mind checking out your beast before you get it raised though as I'm still thinking about dropping mine a bit more.

You're sitting on an incline so it's hard to tell, but it looks to me like you are slightly lower in the rear than front anyways relative to the wheels. I'd raise it a little.
Rolling should help but it depends on where you are rubbing. For sure you could trim out that inner material. Camber would be a later choice to me. You'll already wear the inner parts of your tires way faster than the outer. More camber would make it worse. I rubbed similarly with passengers with my first set of tires. The rounder shoulders on my Toyos stopped the problem for me.

I didn't exactly get what you mean by "even out the wheels". But negative camber basically is pushing in the top part of your wheels so that it clears your fender if in case your rubbing.
