trunk unlatching...anyone else?

I'm having intermittant occurances of trunk unlatching. Often it happens when I first start the car. The audible sounds and the trunk ajar icon appears on the dash, and I know I need to shut the trunk. This is becoming annoying.

I've heard of doors unlatching, am I the only one with the trunk problem?

My 330i has done the exact same thing three times now, usually when pulling out of the parking garage at work..just have to make time to take it to the dealer to be checked..hope the trunk latch just needs some tightening or adjustment

This happened on my E46 all the time....well......maybe once a month for 3 years..... I think the trunk release button is easily tripped while in the pocket or while fumbling around before unlocking the doors. It's happened once so far with my E90.

I hope you all get to the bottom of it. I have never experienced that in my 13 years of BMW ownership.

I remember driving out of the carport and having the warning go off once, but since I didn't park it, don't know what happened in between. The key FOB can be pretty squirrelly in relation to the trunk latch, and sometimes when you *THINK* you closed it securely, . . .

This has happened about 10 times to me in the last two months. I had just assumed I was accidently pressing it in my pocket. But it's been quite a few times and you have to hold the button down for some time for it to open so I really can't immagine it happening that way. I really have no idea why it's happening.

yes, you do, unlike the e46 where the boot (sorry trunk) opened pretty much instantly upon pressing the button.

this is taking me a while to get used to holding the button until you hear it open.

Yeah this happens to me once in a while as well. Although you do have to hold the trunk release button for a second for it to release, I can't imagine that anything else is causing this. Its not difficult to press it while fumbling with your keys with one hand or even getting them out of your pocket.

Surely the comfort access folks shouldn't have this problem?

My A4 often does this because the button on the key is touchy and (IMHO) poorly placed. I have lost count I have gotten in the car, belted up, ans turned ont he ignition to find that the trunk was open - AAARGH!

I am hoping that Comfort Access on my 325 will not have this same problem, which is likely because you aren't handling the key all the time

Yup, 3 times for me but I think its my fault

It's just a hassle to stop, get out and close the trunk.

The speed limit is 110 Km/h (67MPH). As it is the main road between Western Australia and the rest of the country, the cops are all over it. They use a combination of radar guns and helicopters measuring average speeds.

The roads in the Northern Territory are not speed limited, so they are potentially more fun, unless you come upon an unsuspecting granny in her Toyota Camry.

The road in the photo crosses a notorious part of the country called the Nullabour Plain. Urban myth says many people have been abducted by UFOs from there. Probably the boredom of driving for about 24 hours to get from Adelaide to Perth (the capital cities of South and Western Australia respectively) - unfortunately I didn't see any - LOL

Max speed was rather academic on this trip - you will notice the Toyota Hiace bus which was towing a trailer and loaded with kids and otehr family and was only managing to get 300Km (185miles) on a tank of juice and reached warp speeds of 120Km/h (73.6MPH) once - WOO HOO! (But that was only the "indicated" speed on the speedo though )

Last two mornings in a row when leaving for work, I have had to stop get out and shut the damn trunk. Is this a gift from my software update?

Anyone else having this prob?

Anyone had this fixed?

This has happened to me twice; at least the car warns me before I leave where I'm parked, but it is quite curious because I am careful about accidentally pressing buttons on the fob. Maybe the trunk needs some fresh air every now and then...?

I just did a post a few days ago about this. So far, it has happended maybe 3-4 times, and always upon starting the car, and creeping out of the garage.

I hear a chime, and then the Trunk open diagram appears on the dash cluster.

Once or twice, the trunk was really open (even though I did NOT open it, accidently hold or even touch the trunk button on the "key" fob...and 2-3 times, the trunk was completely latched and even locked when I was warned that it was open.

I have only had my E90 for 3 weeks.

Good. I though it was just me. I've had it happen about 5 times in 5 months. But most of the time it happens after driving for a while, not usually after I start the car, so I don't think it's a "hitting the button on the key fob by accident" problem. In fact, a couple of times I've noticed it happening after going over speed bumps or at least it has closed itself after going over the speed bump quickly. It sounds like a loud thump in the trunk. I'm having it checked out at the dealer next time.

Mine did this same thing during ED. As it turns out, I had my spare key fob in my suitcase, which was in the trunk...I guess sensed the key fob and trunk wouldn't close. Haven't had a problem since.
