guessing some crackheard smashed my car. Help with window please
Last night, someone smashed in my driver side window to snag my passport 9500ix radar and to make matters worse, it was 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside so, I'm definitely sick now too. wondering whether I should file with insurance or just to get the window fixed myself. ( mind that it's a $500 deductible)
Just needed to know if anyone can point me in the direction of a reputable seller of a driver side window for an 08 135i. so I can get a price. Google has not been helpful, only hits for driver side mirror replacements keep showing up. thanks Last edited by tWinTuRboz; 01-30-2012 at 10:32 AM.. |

Most insurance companies have non-deductible glass coverage. Check to see if you have it.

You need your comprehensive coverage deductible lowered to $100. The difference between that and $500 coverage is something like $40 a year. Make 1 claim in 10 years and you break even. Make more than 1 and you're ahead. Ask me how I know...

I have $500 on collision, and $250 comprehensive. The premium difference is not that much, but I have State Farm and I'm 46yrs old. Type of car, where you drive, driving record, age, etc...is all taken into account. So it can vary greatly from driver to driver even on the same car. |

depends. that applies to us in FL, but I'm pretty sure we are a rare exception.

If you have glass coverage on your policy it covers all the windows not just the windshield. I've used mine to replace a broken drivers side window on my wifes X5 when a dust devil (Arizona term, similar to a small micro burst) threw some debris at the car and shattered the side window. Glass coverage is a must over here, glad I have it!

The glass coverage can vary state to state. Some have glass as a seperate portion of the policy, some it only falls under comp. Most of the times if you have the coverage, they will do a repair for free and if it cant be repaired, replacement falls under your deductible. I keep my comp at 0 deductible for comp and just made a claim yesterday for a windshield on my 328. Diffrenece between 0 and 500 deductible on comp is small. Collision is another story.

There's no reason to keep anything less than a $1,000 deductible. It's foolish to make a claim on anything under $1,000 as it will significantly jack up your premium if you have another claim within 3 years (you become high risk). You're wasting money by paying up to have a $100 deductible.
