Exhaust hanger ripped - help
So in the process of installing my new supersprint / evolve echaust, I noticed that the hanger on the drivers side was partially torn.
I installed it anyway, and drove it a bit and noticed that the tips were hanging like a quarter inch too low , and looked under the car and the tear is growing I really don't want to drive the car (my dd and only car) and need to get a new hanger. Where can I get this? Dealer only? I'd like to get this figured out ASAP so i can formulate a plan of attack, thanks!

Maybe I can buy a universal hanger for the mean time? So I can continue to drive while I wait for the part?
Even though it won't fit quite Rigjt and will hang too low/high |

How ripped is your hangar? Maybe you can pin it with wire? (like a staple)

I would wrap the hanger rubber with wire and staple it in place, then hit it with some duct tape. kinda ghetto but it should hold together for a few days.

Thanks for the help, mate
I ended up cutting the old one off with a razor blade. I got lucky and found a rubber hanger from autozone that was really close to the right size, just about a sixth of an inch too short. So I muscled that son of a bitch on there lol. It's hanging too high by a touch, but is secure and good to drive until I can get the right one from BMW. Planning on calling Monday. Will install the hanger and then get the car on a real lift to make final adjustments |

Put the new hanger on, works perfectly. Calmed the drone down too, now there is none.
There was a little before bc the echaust was hanging too high, close to the heat shields and diffuser. |

Exhaust hangers are nice to have handy, especially replacing exhaust systems on the 1M. We keep 3 of these on hand on the time for situations like this. Before BMW updated the part number, the older version have a lot more fiber reinforcing the hanger, the new one tears much easier. Good for BMW, but bad for the consumers!

Bumping an old thread, sorry.
Any aftermarket hanger alternatives? I have the hanger on my '11 135 closest to the midpipes stretching. I have a berk exhaust and berk downpipe. Seems that the midpipes (drive side pipe specifically) is hitting the center brace below it, making for some nasty rattles, which I think is from the hanger stretching. Definitely need something stiffer...or some zip ties, which is the temporary fix I think. Might shim the brace away a few mm with washers, but again not a great fix. I googled and didn't see anything...these would have been made by like kartboy or somebody when I had a subaru. Thanks, Morgan |
