Differences in 135i's

There is a difference in the Pre 03/2008 cars. The ones that were delivered here (is it 22 cars?) do have MSD80 in them. The post 03/2008 have MSD81. I never believed it until i saw it with my own eyes.

*The diffs are different and so are the tailshafts, the flanges are different. on Pre to post 03/2008 cars

*Why is it that some cars have bonnet insulation and some don't? A car 1 day old came in last week and had none, seems hit and miss to me, Any-one know?

*Headlights are different on some cars, not sure why yet, maybe adaptive Zenons etc

*The under trays, most cars are missing 1 nut on the transmission tunnel undertray on the LHR, any-one know why?

*All of the cars i have checked all have low clutch fluid from delivery, any-one know why?

That's it for now off the top of my head, i'm just interested in the differences in cars. Are there any others that you know of?

Thanks

Know why I am laughing Andrew? Who on this Aussie forum would know more about our cars than you? You have seen more 135's and more of the inside workings of our cars than anyone else! Maybe try the main board for this one.

Performance wheel isn't plug & play on the pre March cars as Swift pointed out...

Andrew, I think we've confirmed #2 is due to adaptive Zenons, but I agree with WAY, you'd know better than most!

Yeah I don't know if Andrew realises, but my car has adaptive xenon which isn't that common an option...

Wow, some interesting points of concern there...

I'd be interested to know the specific differences with the driveline components - diff and tail shaft, are they as good or inferior to the pre 03/08 ???

Hope BMW havn't taken a step back...

As for underbonnet insulation, I'm no expert on behalf of BMW's but I can tell you that this is a common trend for fully imported cars from abroad of all makes - some have it and others don't, certainly sounds like hit and miss, probably they periodically run out on the production lines and just let the 'missing' cars slip by ??? certainly says alot about Q.C :iono:

The low clutch fluid, is something that BMW pre-delivery should pick up on and rectify before delivery to the customer !!! once again, poor effort, lack of knowledge or attention to detail on their part :iono:

BMW removed the hood liners to improve acoustics (and probably save $$).

Is this really true ??? dosn't sound right to me, as if this were the case, then ALL would be without hood liners, not the current hit miss scenario :iono:

I have read that BMW have indeed reduced sound proofing to the cabin of the 135i's to make them purposely louder and more 'driver appealing' and also to cut costs and make the 3 series feel more luxurious, removing the hood lining will make the engine more audible and save them some costs, but why isn't it consistant ???

Well it appears that all cars after a certain date lack the lining. There could be some minor inconsistencies due to part availability/stockpiles on the production lines I guess.

It may actually be consistent as of 'X' build date. Dont ask me what that is though:iono:

The build dates of the cars seen may have been several months apart.

My late July build has no liner. My 120i didn't have any either. Apart from this forum, I'm yet to see one in the flesh with the liner.

the liner is the biggy for me, i cant find the answer yet, not too sure if its build date dependent though, if memory serves me right i have seen some later ones with it, early without and 08/08 cars without, seems hit and miss to me, people i spoke to don't know anything about it.

Wraith, i had an 02/08 build car in and that had an MSD 80 DME control unit in it, a big housing diff with the Auto nut type spline i see on the post 03/08 Auto cars, according to ETK.

All the post 03/08 manual cars have a flange type set up.

When i get an Auto in, i will be keen to get underneath to see if the BMW parts ETK agrees with what i see.

Overseas, they have the early set up Pre 03/08 but the diff housing is smaller than the Aussie ones i have seen. I cannot know if the internals are different in any way yet.

BTW, i don't know everything, i'm just keen to learn, like i don't know how to use the monitor functions inside out yet, Cozza has an issue with his monitor opening on start up, i have no clue how to stop this from happening, as i said, just learning and having fun doing it.

Don't worry, you are still one step ahead of me Andrew lol. Yesterday I arrived at Andrew's to see my rear seat folded down. And I said to him, "I have foldable rear seat?". Hey you can't blame me, it has no latch and I didn't know you can just pull it down!

It appears as though hood insulation is supposed to be on the 135.

This from Real OEM..... within the E82 / 135i parts, it's under Main Group: Vehicle Trim - Sub Group: Insulation -- and it's there as part of "Sound Insulating Front"

Incidently, being in the "Sub Group: Insulations", means it's NOT in the "Sub Group": "Various Body Parts", or "Accesories and retrofittings". To me, this implies it's not an optional, it's supposed to be there.

11 SOUND INSULATING ENGINE HOOD 151489141036
12 EXPANDING RIVET D=7,5 551481915964 $0.39

Sorry formatting is so bad

Presumably this means you could order it, but I'd be more inclined to show this to a dealer and tell them I want the "whole" car I paid for.

Just as well I won't be using it then! Lol. What kind of a stupid design is this? Latch in the boot? What happened to conventional latch on the top of the seat itself?

It actually makes it easier to put the seats down when you're trying to load a bigger item from the boot. You don't have to open the boot, open the door, slide the seat forward, lean in and open it.

Stupidest suggestion ever, but could insulation be colour dependent if it's not build date dependent? Just start writing down your findings and find the pattern!
