Yes I did but unfortunatly my shift knob came with a different harness which was I think 9 pin and I needed a 7 pin. So I had to figure out what each wire did and then wire it up from there.

So if i get this right, anyone wanting to do this in a 1er should be looking for an M5 shifter with a 7-pin harness.

Ya I the m3 one normally comes with it to but it is doable no matter which one you get you will just have to do some more r&d with the one.

thats sweet, but question regarding the shifting,

do the motions change?
like for reverse do you have to push the shifter to the left and up?
and how do you get into sport(manual shift mode)

cause my impression of the DCT / smg shifters has always been,
that they stay in the middle, but they tilt, so you push them up,
they dont move up, they tilt up and the gear changes.

Is that the case?
Or is this all just to get a gearstick with lights.......

No the transmission does not change at all so the selection of the gears can not change.

ohh okay, hell of an effort for some lights then lol
would be cool if the gear shifting method changed to the SMG or DCT style

seems like the DCT gearshift is available based on these pictures in the lastest 1 Series catalogue.

yeah of course, the new models HAVE dct, what i meant though was, if the retrofit kit would allow that style of shifting then it'd be worth it, else all that wiring for a gearknob with lights?

It is a much better looking and feeling gear lever though. I love this idea.

I dont get what you are trying to get at what style of shifting are you talking about. Are you talking on how the dct paddles are gear up on the right and gear down on the left?
