Umm, like... Ouch.

Well, driving around Panzer today and pulled in to the Gym parking lot. Wasn't going fast or anything but I failed to see the gutter cover sticking up until it was too late... (You can see the nice straight line where it hit the lip)

Damned cover caught the CRT lip straight on and the rest is... ugly

Already been to BMW and the cost is surprisingly low. "Only" ~ €1400 incl. MwST for parts paint and labor. The CRT lip on the other hand... $$$. Yeah, this is going on the insurance

EDIT: Oh, and on the bright side... I'm no longer so concerned about the strength of the 3M double sided tape

Hey, but the lip doesn't look cracked. At least from that angle. That had to be painful. Any other damage other than that??

Report it to the MP's? If you got a report, the post authorities might be able to pay you back for damages if it is proven someone was out of place on the road.

- filing a claim is easy now. It's all online. All Uncle Sugar can do is deny the claim.

I recommend Brixner for repairs.

Bummer & good luck.

I feel your pain. Just went through 3800 euro's worth of repairs to my car right before I shipped it home. Man that sucks!

Thanks guys
You can see in this pic where the grill hit the lip: (White "line" where it busted through the CF)

I'm going in to Legal tomorrow to see about filing a claim with the Garrison but really doubt my chances. Looking at it from the outside all I can think is... Prove it. Which is pretty hard to do.

Here's where/what happened:

Crossing into this parking lot...

I noticed this gutter grill sticking up just as it disappeared under the front of the car...

From what I can piece together looking at the damage it appears that the CRT lip caught the edge of the cover which basically locked back and into the channel it's in. The edge bit into the lip and bent the whole front end down (NO scrapes on the bottom of the lip at all) and basically, as I moved forward, the weakest link gave... which turned out to be the front bumper and NOT the 3M tape

The "cut" in the CRT lip is SO close to the bottom it's crazy. I'll take a closer pic tonight but it couldn't have been 1/8th of an inch from just sliding underneath the lip.

I've already contacted the Niederlasung and once we get the thumbs up from the insurance (or USAG) they'll get me in quick since I should have orders for DC in the next week or 2.

Hooray for good timing, right?

You can go with the dealer, but USAA offered me a warranty on repairs / quality of workmanship back in the U.S. if Brixner performed the repair.

If Neiderlassung does the repair (and I doubt they have an in house paint booth) and 4 months after arrival in the states the front spoiler starts to fall off or the paint bubbles you will have no recourse. The odds of Neiderlassung screwing this up are to none. So it's something to consider.

The governement will only reimburse you up to your deductible. If you were going to the Gym as part of your physical fitness regimen it's part of your assigned duties or "in the line of duty" so make sure you place that in your statement. It will strengthen your position/case.

Also, take another picture if the grill with a size reference like a ruler or something.

Damn, good points, thanks. I'll work the size comparison pics tonight and call the MPs about adding the "in performance of my duties" to my statement. (Of course, anyone who has met me knows that I wasn't going to the Gym, lol)

Just Kidding...

All you have to say is "whilst in the peformance of my duties i parked at the Panzer Gymnasium parking lot."

no where in your statement did you say you were going to exercise.

Lol, I think you've got me and the SGM mixed up. I'm just a tubby civilian

Spoke with the claims office and have an appointment next Wed. Only "problem" I forsee is, the burden of proof is on the claimant, i.e. all I have are a few pics and a repair bill so... we'll see

Its not a burden of proof. It's rather a proximate cause. Which given a natural unbroken chain of events the loss could have been prevented.

So the legal office does not determine proof but, rather determins if the U.S. Government has any liability and failed to take reasonable and prudent measures to prevent the loss. In your case I think its possible. DPW should have repaired the grate.

But, also when you use a lowered suspension or lower performance air dams (CF Spliters) you assume risk. Read your policy but, the insurance company may deny your claim based on the fact a lower carbon fiber splitter is not a normal part of the car. Good news is they dont often deny a simple claim.

For example, if you sit in the 5th row back along the 3rd base line you should expect to see some foul balls come your way and if you get hit. The pitcher, hitter or club owner is not considered at fault for your black eye.

Yeah, Insurance already told us that, should we file a claim, they'd definitley cover the OEM parts and they're confirming the issue of the splitter.

Thx
