Ride on 18" wheels
Hi folks
Those of you with 18" wheels on your coupe, how do your find the ride on our rubbish UK roads? I want to order a 123d M-Sport but am not sure about the stock 207M wheels (look a pain to clean) and am thinking of upgrading to the 261M wheels (or the 264M wheels if I could get them on this model). However I live in the country and a lot of mileage will be on country lanes and B-roads albeit for fairly short trips. I've test driven 123d on the stock wheels and ride was fine, firm but not harsh but I'm wondering whether the going to the 18" wheels will give too harsh a ride. From what I've read it seems the coupe ride on 18" RFT is a lot better than the hatchback on 18" RFT. Any comments appreciated. Thanks Jon (NB - same question posted on Babybmw.net) |

ride is fine, all be it the run flat seem a bit slippery over drain covers.... dont get wrong it is a 'firm' ride... but quite acceptable for the upgraded looks!!
however... you spend 1/2 your time driving watching out for potholes, especially around here!! mind you i used to used that in my old discovery as well |

I had a similar dilema with respect to the wheels on my 123d coupe. In the end I went for the 17"ers, as I also work in a fairly rural area and it would seem that it's impossible to get run-flat winter tyres to fit the 18"s. (We get some pretty horrible weather in my part of the world between Dec and Feb, and not sure I'd fancy tackling it in a RWD car with summer tyres on)!
It would have been easy enough to get a spare set of winter rims but my car will be a company car and whilst they'll pick up the bill for winter tyres, I'd have to fork out for rims myself... |

I have not noticed any problems, it rides much better than my 05 plate Mini cooper on 17s did. As has been said its firm but not uncomfortable. personnally i would always go for the bigger wheels.

Thanks Vidge. Love the pictures you've posted to date, one with car on the south downs is very nice. The chromeline trim works really good on your sedona car. That's what I'm down for on my forthcoming SGM coupe, though now having some doubts whether the chromeline will work so well with with the lemon interior I'm having.
