Question how to install performance knob & boot?

I just got my performance knob and boot and was wondering if when installed does the boot attach to the knob and how? or does it just sit right under the knob unsecure? Thanks in advance guys!

No, it does not attach to the shift knob. The top of the boot will rest/butt up against the bottom of the shift knob.

What holds the boot up - I mean, what keeps it from sliding down away from the knob?

The boot has a neck (excess material) that forms a friction fit to the shift lever.
