Arrow TheSt|G Dyno Day (You asked for it for long enough)

Finally got some time off to take the car and hit the dyno. The requests have been fairly incessant, so here you go.

The car:
2010 128i with 93 octane gas

The power mods:
Evolve tune
3 stage manifold
Supersprint headers

The *maybe* power mods:
Euro intake
Euro BMW Performance intake

Still has stock 128i mid pipe cats.

The good: I think this is the highest 128i SAE DynoJet dyno, and the highest N52 SAE DynoJet dyno with bolt ons? I'm not to sure as I really don't pay much attention to this stuff.

The bad: It was a hot/humid mid July day. So, it pulled timing on the top end, causing it to run rich for safety. It probably has another 10hp-15hp to give, but sadly we weren't going to find out today. I'll try to get another run in when it isn't so hot out to see what it can fully do.

The Numbers

SAE Corrected:
Run 1
HP: 235.21
TQ: 219.81

Run 2
HP: 233.98
TQ: 221.49

Peak Crank (assuming 17% loss per usual for BMWs):
HP: 283.38
TQ: 266.85

Gains(over stock BMW quote)
HP: +53.38
TQ: +66.85

Awesome! Great gains Stig! Not only are the peak numbers impressive the curve shapes are too. Thanks for going to the dyno and showing us what the 128i is really capable of.

The most impressive thing here is the torque, IMO-- 60 ft lbs from VERY low rpm.

... Which is exactly how it felt driving it, before/after. The tune really made 5th a valid back road gear.

I'd really like to see this overlayed on a stock 128 sae file.

Anyone have a bone stock manual 128 .drf I could have to overlay them? I bet the difference in area under the curve is staggering, even with it pulling timing at the top end!

Horsepower numbers are good - (I think GTKROCKETT is up there too) but the torque is what is really impressive.

Yup, I just want to get it back when it's a bit cooler outside. And yeah, I was stunned by the torque, though it drives like it.

Send me the .drf and I will.

Can't wait to do my wife's e91... Even though it won't be nearly as fast as the 400 lb lighter 128i...

Still, 60 ft lbs is going to make it feel MUCH lighter.

I have no photoshop skills, but I'm sure someone does. Not sure how relevant it is until it's cooler and I'm not pulling timing. A local 330i buddy and I are tentatively scheduled to return in the fall.

Awesome stuff!!!
Thanks for taking the time

Did EVOLVE remote tune this run in any way? Will they in the future?

I have my DynoJet files (stock manifold, cat delete midpipe & stock intake), it can be done

otherwise I can do Photoshop

128i dyno at about 200-205 hp SAE so this is a fantiasitc gain

Good numbers.

It is a thing to note that I pulled timing in about 75*F and ran rich as well. Talking with AA it was apparent that mine was pulled from the Exhaust Temp Gas being too hot and dumping fuel to save the OEM cats. If you have high-flow cats this shouldn't be an issue though...right?

This appears to be right on par of where I should be come headers with a simple prediction of gains.

AA + custom headers + 3IM :: makes less HP in the low end, especially the dips, the gains you feel most in driving daily (unless you wait until 6k rpm)

Are you saying all Stigs mods result in 40 or less hp gain based on the dyno. He believes there's about 15 more hp hidden. If he's right, that would be a sweet gain, around 20 whp gain over stock 330i.

He doesn't have highflow Cats - he also shouldn't have issues with the EGT, as the crap stock manifold is replaced with the much improved Super Sprint piece.

AA's peak power tuning for the headers is spot on, but Evolve and SuperSprint just have them beat everywhere else. There just too much to overcome with Mapleridge's design, including the terrible collector - you can see it as the power nosedives due to lack of flow.

I dont care about any 10 HP at the top end. I am very satisfied with the Middle story around the dips
