Best way to use Steptronic?

Any tips on when Steptronic is best utilized?

~ Down steep hills?
~ Winding mountain roads?
~ Up steep climbs?
~ Rough terrain?
~ Hard launches?

TIA

Here are my $0.02

~ Down steep hills? - Motor braking in M mode.. just like in a MT car
~ Winding mountain roads? - M mode, possibly S mode if you get lazy
~ Up steep climbs? - M or S mode
~ Rough terrain? - umm, I wouldn't
~ Hard launches? - Never dragged the car but either S or M seems to work

D for around town, driving while on the phone (keeps the revs down, less noise) and also for long distance driving on the freeway.

Personally, I've tried all the known variations (Alpina, new Alpina, U.S. sport) and now I'm back to the standard BMW trans flash.

There are people that can make the Alpina behave the way it was intended via supplemental DME changes to correct the up shifting in D mode by changing the torque request tables in tunerpro, however if you're not of them, you would be throwing away the standard D mode (aka granny D mode).

Interesting, didn't know that about D mode. Personally, never use it with my DCT (always in manual mode), but still, you never know when you may NEED to use it.
