Ambient lighting in the 1-series is not the ambient lighting you would see in a 3-series (the red LED strip that runs alongside the interior door). From what I've read on this forums, I think the ambient lighting on the 1-series is the puddle lights located on the door handles (and maybe some footwell lights). The red LED lights on the top of the front and rear center console illuminating the interior, which cover the definition of ambient lighting more than the puddle lights, come standard.

----- To the OP, I couldn't find any direct links -- but here is a decent one with some ambient shots. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...hlight=ambient |

Here we go again.
Ambient light on the 1 is the puddle light from the door handle and it requires premium package. You get the standard red LED mood light that illuminates the shifter from the center roof console. The rear also get similar treatment if you have premium package.

I also like the idea of all the extra lights. But I decided I don't need power with the leather seats, so the $3300 for the premium package vs. $1450 for manual leather seats is alot of jack for the other little things. My favorite items on the premium package are the auto rear view mirror, the puddle lights, and the dimming side mirrors. I don't need bluetooth, hardly use my cell, the BMW assist is nice but not needed, I don't need the power seats even though I love them, plus the extra motors on them might go bad, the manual sport seats adjust great, I am the only driver so I don't need the memory. If I had alot of extra jack I would definitely get the premium package, but thats not my case.

Footwell Lights
Looking at the underside of the footwells on my non-premium 128, I noticed the slots for the footwell lights were there.
Anyone try popping them in yet? I'm sure the part can be ordered from the dealer. |

I agree. My friend's 2002 Subaru WRX comes with it. If a Subaru comes with it, a BMW should. |

My Civic Si didn't come with the automatic rear view mirror which is fine, its a Civic. Honda wants $400 plus install for it. I bet BMW would want $700 installed for the rear view mirror because it has the compass and garage door opener. Maybe more then $700? I think its totally FK'd up having to order the premium pkg to get a dimming rear view mirror. Its a must and should be standard, unbelievable BMW.

"You get the bare minimum of kit. Just a big, fat, chunky wheel, a snickety-snick six-speed manual box and, er, a rear-view mirror. I had hope in my heart as I set off; hope that, after 25 years, BMW was back in business making small, fast, simple sports saloons.
It is." Notice Jeremy Clarkson didn't say auto-dimming rear-view mirror in his review. People have it engrained in their minds that BMW's must have luxury appoinments. A premium brand doesn't always equal luxury and I'm thankful to have the option to skip a "must" such as the auto-dimming mirror. |

I agree If all you have to complain about is a dimming rear view and some lights the car must be good. We could be saying things like "Man, I wish we had more torque":headbang: |

Agreed 100 percent. I ordered my car without the premium package, its too to know it comes without the lighting.

An auto dimming mirror isn't a LUXURY item, my sons Chevy Aveo has one. Its because so many trucks and sport utilitys all over blinding me. My eyes are very sensitive to bright light and don't feel like wearing sunglasses at night, or constantly flipping the stupid mirror. I don't need all kinds of LUXURY crap, just things that shuld be standard on a $40,000.00 car. IMO...........
