AST Suspension

The fusion of damper expertise, extensive product development ingenuity & precision engineering.

AST Suspension coil overs are mono-tube, high pressure nitrogen shock absorbers using high quality, low friction seals & bearings that offers lower frictional value, resistance to cavitation & a larger, more sensitive valve design, capable of controlling larger oil flow & control of damper movements. This eliminates the age old problem of overheating under extreme conditions. As a result of all of these design features strength, reliability & performance is achieved.

AST Suspension products are hand built in the Netherlands. Quality is ensured, because the company oversees the complete production process. AST (Advanced Suspension Technology) was established in 2000. The company was founded by Peter Smits & Piet Kreeft. Smits owned several factories in the Netherlands & Belgium. Kreeft had decades of experience working for a major, German, shock absorber manufacturer, specializing in sports & racing suspension technology.

AST Suspension USA was created to offer U.S driving enthusiasts the same, reasonably priced, high performance shocks that race teams throughout Europe relish. With an established U S. location AST can now offer in addition to its quality products, immediate service & support.

MONOTUBE DESIGN SHOCKS

All AST products are MONTOTUBE in their design.

Stock vehicles for street use are usually equipped with Dual-Tube (twin-tube) shocks. The design utilizes an inner tube chamber & an outer tube. The inner, working chamber contains the main oil supply & the piston. The outer tube includes extra oil & the extra space is charged with a low-pressure (100-150 psi) gas, usually nitrogen. The gas is added to replace any oxygen air, which lessons aeration & performance fade.

The dual-tube shock design offers a smooth & comfortable ride. However, heavy-duty road use such as occurs in off-roading & racing scenarios can make twin-tube shocks overheat, causing the oil to foam & mix with the gas which will ultimately result in shock fade.

MONOTUBE shocks include the piston, oil, & gas all in a single tube. This allows the diameter of the single working cylinder & piston valve to be larger than a dual-tube while keeping the same external dimensions. In the design, the piston presses on a mass of oil which then pushes a second piston. The second piston rests between the oil & a section of high-pressure gas, (usually 200-350 psi.) Since the design keeps the oil & gas separated the valve can operate more responsively & without any aeration or performance fade. In addition, with all the oil in one tube, it is more easily cooled by the surrounding air,so helping delay the onset of shock fade.

MONOTUBE shock absorbers are stiffer & tighter than twin tube designs, making them a better choice for heavy-duty off-roading & racing environments. Another advantage, they can be mounted upside down, reducing the unsprung weight. Since the Monotube design requires more length, they can be difficult to fit. The AST 4100, 5100, 5200 & 5300 Series are designed to eradicate this issue.

AST MONOTUBE damper designs achieve strength, reliability & performance. They use high-quality, low friction seals & bearings. This means a lower frictional value, resistance to cavitation with a larger, more sensitive valve area capable of controlling a larger oil flow & the control of damper movements. AST MONOTUBE designs eliminate the age old problem of overheating under extreme conditions.

NOTE - REBOUND ADJUSTMENT
Rebound controls the rate of extension of your shock absorber. By changing the rebound you can directly change the characteristics of your vehicle.

AST 1 WAY 4100 Series

Prices start at $2,549.00

The 4100 Series has purpose built strut & shock bodies, shortened from stock lengths. Benefits include:
Monotube design allows for the biggest piston available
Floating piston design with high pressure nitrogen means no cavitation around the piston
Adjuster knobs permanently mounted on the dampers
New low friction seal on all AST dampers
Rubber bushings for “eye” shock mounts
Rebound Adjustable (“Singles”)
22mm diameter shaft struts, non-inverted
Steel cylinder body shocks, non-inverted
Optional DDP piston (double digressive)
Optional spherical upper shock mount assemblies
Optional DLC coated shafts
Re-buildable

AST 1 WAY 5100 Series

Prices start at $3,049.00

The 5100 Series utilize inverted/upside down technology. A race proven technology that produces an extremely strong damper providing better suspension geometry under heavy lateral & braking loads – as experienced in both road & track environments. The shock bodies are specially designed to keep maximum stroke, even with a lower ride height. Benefits include:
Monotube design – allows for the biggest piston available
Floating piston design with high pressure nitrogen means no cavitation around the piston
Adjuster knobs permanently mounted on the dampers
New low friction seal on all AST dampers
Rubber bushings for “eye” shock mounts
Rebound Adjustable (“Singles”) without reservoir
44.5mm diameter shaft struts, Inverted
Optional DDP piston (double digressive)
Optional spherical upper shock mount assemblies
Optional DLC coated shafts
Re-buildable

AST 2 WAY 5200 Series

Prices start at $5,549.00

The 5200 Series are 2-way adjustable shock absorbers which are based upon competition 3-way adjustable shock absorbers. The 5200 shock absorbers are adjustable in compression & rebound. The 5200 Series includes a remote reservoir, top mounts & springs.
AST’s compression adjuster design has evolved from their experience supplying dampers to the American Grand-Am series. The 2-way damper is universally praised for its performance & capabilities at a reasonable price. Benefits include:

Monotube design – allows for the biggest piston available
Fully upgradeable to 5300 spec
Rebound and Compression Adjustable (‘Doubles’) with a remote reservoir
Remote reservoirs allow additional travel & heat dissipation
44.5mm diameter shaft struts, Inverted
New low friction seal on all AST dampers
Spherical lower “eye” shock mounts
Reservoir with hose or piggyback
Spherical upper shock mount assemblies
Synthetic hydraulic fluid
Optional DDP piston (double digressive)
Optional DLC coated shafts
Re-buildable
