Can you post pictures of the PDC on the nav screen, and also a shot of how much room is left under the armrest with a flash drive in place? I don't want to risk bending a longer flash drive in the socket...

I shall get those shots right now for you - watch this space. Light's gone (very late afternoon), but they'll do, I'm sure.

Hey C-Dog, love that Porsche (I guess I'd be looking at your taillights from mine), and BTW, you didn't take nearly enough pictures of that beautiful new 1er. Ha!

Thanks!

Slight delay beacuse a neighbour wanted to see the new car...

Memory stick - mine is about 5.5cm excluding the USB plug. You would be able to go another cm at most I think.

PDC - picked a point with quite a few objects around (!) - display area is red at about 18-20 inches from car - sound changes from beeping to continuous at about 12 inches.

Pics not the best - bit of a hurry.

Chester, there appears to be a bit of a blind spot right in the middle of the front pdc?:iono:

No, just no object there.

For this shot, I reversed to the garage door (so that's all across the rear of the car), my house wall is close to the front left, and my neighbour's wall is further away to the right. Get the idea?

If there are no obstacles in range, the display shows a greyed-out fan shape front and rear - which you can see parts of in the area to the front and to the rear corners in the picture.

Oh, memory stick - with the iPod connecting stuff comes a short male and female USB linking lead. I guess you could plug the stick into the female end, connect the male end to the car's socket and you're all set. The lead is about eight inches long.

Ok, so the screen is blank and only when objects come into range does the red, yellow green lines appear?

Got it thanks

ChesterDog, thanks a lot for posting photos of your GT3. The car looks absolutely fantastic. White, PCCB, track, a TRUE Sports Car.
Enjoy your 135i and GT3 in good health. Looks like a good combo for B-roads fun....

Nav Screen

ChesterDog. Would be interested in your thought on Nav Screen. Looked a bit "cheap" at Melbourne Motor Show.

Also, a bit concerned that on dash, without a hood to cover screen, that it might be a bit hard to see the screen in bright sunlight.

(I do note that in the UK, at this time of the year, that "bright sunlight" ain't going to be too much of a problem).

Two good points.

You're right that the screen surround and the edge of its hole in the dash do look a bit cheap. That's probably not quite fair, but they are smooth, untextured plastic. My personal view is that it just manages to stay the right side of the quality standard you'd expect, but it's a close call it's true.
The right side of the surround, close to the screen has a tiny blob (a light-sensor I presume) which always looks like something you need to wipe from the surface or scratch away with a finger nail. You can just see it in the pictures above.
As for the sunlight - well, you're right about the lack of it here just know, but I'm pretty sure that this won't be a problem due to the screen's angle, position and matt surface. It doesn't take much to wash out the view of a TomTom and the like, but I certainly haven't noticed the slightest problem with this display.
Yet.

Edit: I'll be out in the car in a few hours' time and the sun is out - I'll get some pics if I can.

More random pictures. Quality not very good as it was a bit of a rush, and I'm using a new camera, a new version of Photoshop and a new PC - yes the ChesterDog credit card is feeling rather tired just now.

Okay, I think I'd better call it a day after these, for the time being at least. I'll get some proper shots at a decent location soon.
Included here are shots of the sat-nav screen in bright, direct sun - as you can see, it's great - not affected at all.
