Have you done this with your key? - Learn from my mistake
Left my 2011 128i key in my pocket on wash day. Realized my mistake the next day and could not find the key, but was sure it was in the washing machine. A second search I find the key inside the washer behind a gasket in the door. Opened the key wiped out moisture (very little) and went to the car and it worked. Came back and left the remote in a bowl of rice to wick out excess moisture.
WARNING -- I checked the cost to replace the key (w comfort access) - $322.00 plus another $113.00 to deactivate the old key and activate the new one. Some how I've justified this cost avoidance as money towards performance intake or exhaust. Agree? |

I washed my key once too. It even went through the dryer. Somehow it came out perfectly functional. I must have been lucky, that or these keys are extremely durable.

Carried my key with me in a ziplock bag when I went canoeing with friends. We got capsized a few times, and somehow the bag got opened without me knowing so I was swimming around the lake with the key just floating around in my pocket.
It worked perfectly afterwards. These things are made tough.

My key has been in the washer and dryer (in my jeans pocket) and survived without a scratch. Still using that same key.

BMW clearly knows who they are designing for.

perhaps the team who designed the key fob should be put on the hpfp debacle.
