DIY high beam/low beam bulb replacement
This may be a mundane maintenance item, but based on my frustration today trying to follow BMW's instruction, I thought I'd provide this.
(Sorry no pics) 1) FORGET the owner's manual's instructions. Follow these instructions for both low and/or high beam bulbs (and probably turn indicator as well). 2) Remove the front tire. Yes, remove the front tire. 3) Remove front shield in wheel well (the one with the flap that BMW tells you to remove). Don't waste your time removing the flap -- you cannot access the cover, hinges, or bulbs if you only remove the flap. There are approximaely six 8mm nuts to remove. 4) After removing the shield you will see the back cover for the bulbs. There are two wire clasps you need to move sideways, one directly in front of you, the other towards the center of the car. 5) After moving the clasps the cover lifts up, then angles out. 6) You can now see the back of the bulbs. You will see the electrical connector, and another wire hinge holding each bulb in place. 7) Gently remove the electrical connector. 8) To lower the hinge, first move the hinge to the right, then lower it. It holds the bulb in place via a small notch in the bulb's flange, It will not lower if you pull straight down. 9) The bulb will now fall into your hand. 10) Installation is the reverse of removal Remember that small notch in the bulb's flange. Good luck. Last edited by Pkaia524; 03-04-2014 at 06:56 PM.. |
