imo sounds like a pretty good deal, $2.4k isn't that bad all things considered for 24months of peace of mind!

hope you enjoy the car!

I basically kept throwing prices at different dealers, telling them to beat it and seemed to bottom out at the price below.

I opted for the BMW Factory Warranty (RRP $3995) extension rather than the Allianz equivalent, with no roadside and claim limits. The max you can get is 2 years with BMW Roadside Assist and for this, I paid $2400.80. Speak to David in Finance and he'll help you out. He told me to keep mum about the price but I'm all for sharing for the sake of others' benefit. Who knows, there may be more room to move on that price!

Some may argue it's too much for peace of mind and they're happy to wing it. I don't know the history of my car (2nd hand) so I was happy to pay for it.

Hope this helps fellas!

Cheers

thanks, 2400 is the lowest so far, well done

Great post. Looks like $2,400 is the mark for 24 months BMW extended warranty.

No worries guys. For those of you who are considering, perhaps do a little 'group buy' thing?

These finance guys have quotas and a selling a bulk lot (eg. 5 warranties in one go) may be incentive to drop the price more. I only had 2 days to do it from picking up my car to buying the warranty before it ran out!

Is pricing dependent on the model? I was quoted $3450, 2yr unlimited.

Hello all.

Just wanting to try and rekindle this thread.

My 135 has 20k km's on the clock and is running out of manufacturers warranty on the 17th of this month. I have Premium Selection warranty starting for 12mths from then.

I want to keep the car for a while and got a quick quote from BMW Sydney the other day for a 3yr extension to the manufacturers warranty including roadside and accident care. The initial price was a tad over $7k and I just sat there and looked at him, he knocked 25% off and brought it down to $5775!

What are others recent experiences (price/purchase location etc etc). I'd prefer the peace mind knowing that if something dies it'll be fixed but this price is just crazy. In the last 12mths I've had the HPFP replaced as well as the steering sensors.

Cheers.

If it helps to understand how much you can negotiate, the dealers cost, on the full 3 years extended warranty is $3850. Plus they would receive a commission.

As a corporate customer (IBM) I got 4 years free scheduled servicing, 4 years warranty as well as 0.5% lower finance rate on-top of my negotiated interest rate. Think also I get a lower rate on one of those BMW drive days. Not sure what that is though I haven't looked into it much. Might consider buying more warranty if I decide to keep the car, or, go for the M2.

Sounds similar to Audi's corporate customer offer.

In case anyone is interested, I contacted Mike at Toowoombah BMW like some have recommended and this is what he has come up with:

Allianz issued product:
$3100 2yrs

BMW product (underwritten by Allianz):
$3818 2yrs (RRP $6491)
$4500 3yrs (RRP $7700)

He said that there wasn't a great deal of difference in the two and he mostly sells the Allianz issued product. The BMW product is the only one that offers a 3 year option though.

I've just got to weight it up now, $4500 is still a bit of money for effectively 2 years cover (due to the fact i've got the premium selection on the car, which'll be overwritten).

Hope this helps someone.

I was looking at extending my warranty for an additional two years so I called Brisbane BMW yesterday and they quoted me
$5503 1yr
$6491 2 yr
$7700 3 yr
because it was a "high performance" vehicle What a joke and rip-off, especially considering the quotes others have received were as low as $2400 for 2 years.

They then immediately offered me a 20% discount bring the price to
$4402 1yr
$5192 2yr
$6160 3yr
Still laughable and not worth it too me at those prices. Still more than double the $2400 quotes.

btw, this was for the BMW-branded Allianz-backed warranty with unlimited kilometres and Roadside Assist included (the latter for which I received a separate letter to extend for $116 per year).

I might try Toowoomba (and maybe Motorline) BMW on Monday as I only have until next Friday to arrange extended warranty, if I decide to take it up - still undecided whether to do this or not.

IF I didn't take out the extended warranty and, over the next two years, I had to claim for a couple items at $1000-$2000 each (e.g. the steering wheel sensor mentioned above and maybe a HPFP), then there wouldn't be much difference either way (I'd just cop the extra few hundred dollars for not having taken out the extended warranty). A couple of the high costs seemed to be around these prices. I'm not sure what other items have a high replacement cost . Also, with modifications, there may only be a limited number of things that could be claimed anyway, so, in this case, I presume motor and turbos wouldn't be covered, which could reduce the advantages of the extended warranty.

Check with your original BMW dealer, as I am pretty sure you have up to 30 days after the factory warranty expires to take up the extended warranty. Take up with dealer in case I am wrong.

Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying a 135i privately.

The car is a 2008 manual with 20 months of BMW Premium Selection Extended Warranty on it.

Is this warranty transferable?

I know the original factory warranty follows the VIN. Is it the same for BMW's extended warranty?

Do I need to do anything to transfer the warranty over?

The seller tells me the warranty also comes with free servicing (1 service per year).

Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to joining you all soon.

I believe the BMW Premium Selection Extended Warranty (included by BMW dealers when selling a pre-owned vehicle) isn't transferable to subsequent owners - all benefits end with the person who purchased from the dealer.

The Allianz extended warranty provided (BMW-branded or Allianz-branded) is transferable.

At least this is what I was advised when I phoned BMW Australia (ph 133269) a few months ago. You can always call them to confirm.

Hi

Premium Selection Warranty and Scheduled Servicing are NOT transferable. Coverage is limited to the vehicle and the owner stipulated on the contract. The Roadside Assistance and Accident Management IS transferable though.

Have a look at the current PDS on this link: http://bmw.com.au/com/en/usedvehicle...s-brochure.pdf

Cheers.
