Talking Need Advice..

Hey BMW Brothers,
I need advice on a brake fluid flush, microfilter replacement and standard scope that my dealership said that came up from my cars fob, when i went in for a routine oil and filter change.

Standard Scope-$129.00 pls tax
Brake Fluid Flush-$139.95 pls tax
Micro Filters- 120.00 pls tax

I declined these services and checked my service history on my car and it states that the brake fluid and microfilters were done at 30190 miles Im currently at 52000 miles. Should i do these? Also my service light still pops up on startup even after the oil and filter change should i try resetting it?

If you're having a check engine light come on every time you start the car, you should take it to a mechanic for an inspection for sure. Do you have a BMW independent shop in your area? Typically these guys would be a bit cheaper and would specialize in BMW's - dealers can be rip offs depending on location etc.

I change my microfilters 1x/year but don't pay 120$, I'm sure you can buy these online and install yourself.

Again, try and find an independent BMW specialty shop in your area to start going to for regular work.

The filters are easy to change. The cabin filter takes a little more work (maybe 6 screws) compared to some vehicles but still easy just takes a little more time.

The intake air filter for the engine. Pop the good and you'll see a big black box with a lid. That's the air box. Pop the lid and the filter is right there.

The cabin air filter is up near the windshield, it's covere by a wide plastic cowl. If you look at an install guide for any ecu chip for the 1er, one of the first steps is almost always taking off that cowl/filter.

Tischer BMW always has great pricing, http://www.getbmwparts.com/

For these filters just stick with OEM, there really is no serious benefit of choosing aftermarket.

Thank you DoubleVanosSRC. About the standard scope should i have it done after i change these filters? Or should i change the filters and then try to reset the service light on my own and forget about the standard scope?

Idk, I would just change them and reset the service filter and forget about the standard scope. If anything is wrong it should light up on the cluster i would assume.

What makes you say fuel filter? Is that part of micro filters?

True, forgot about the oil and fuel filters since I was just thinking in terms of air filters.

Oil filter should be done with every oil change anyway.

@Awns729- Micro filter only refers to the cabin air filter. BMW changes it every two years. I'm not sure if its necessary to change more often unless you live in a dusty area or are sensitive to allergens. Fuel filter I'm honestly not sure if BMW even changes at all, but it should be done once every year or two.

My dealer told me that the brake fluid flush is every two years, starting with the production date. The dealer changed the cabin filter at the same time.

The Microfilters will be easy to do yourself - fuel filter and oil filter may be more difficult. I would take it in for a standard scope first, if there's something more seriously you may want to spend the money fixing that prior to the microfilters.

Not sure if finances are an issue, but either way - do a full inspection if you haven't done one inawhile or never at all.

Well OP just got an oil and oil filter change, so he doesn't need the oil filter.

Unfortunately your shopping cart won't show up, list the part numbers as the description doesn't tell us specifics.

This is correct.

If you get a Pressure Bleeder and fluid you can do it yourself which is fairly easy.

Actually, the fuel filter is really good for the life of the car. Or more likely the life of the LPFP. The fuel filter is part of the LPFP (low pressure fuel pump) that sits inside the gas tank. So replacing it is not that easy nor cheap.

The cabin pollen micro filter should be replaced every year along with your wiper blades. The pollen filter is easy to do. Just watch the Cobb video in my spark plug DIY link bellow. You have to remove the pollen filter to replace the rear spark plugs.

As for bleeding your brakes... I HIGHLY recommend the Motive on man pressure bleeder. It really works well. And its not too expensive at $55. Get the euro version...
