WOW!!!
We want to know what you think... also where did the LSD come from? What was the donor car. Is this the first person to do this? I really want to know what you think of the difference it made. Congrats!! Posts like this are what will fuel the mod community of these cars for years to come!

+1
The ring gear is NOT welded on cars equipped with a STEP tranny. And the LSD is the Quaife unit that HP Autowerks is distributing. I've talked to the owner on his thoughts on it, but will let him go in to detail himself. Needless to say, he loves it.

Sorry guys...Been busy cleaning poopy diapers of a 1yr old apart from trying the new LSD
Got the Quaife from Harold at HP autowerks. Awesome customer service. Got it installed with Brett at Koala motor sports. Installation was a breeze as Brett makes his own diffs. He works with diffs like he is doing an artwork. Mine is a step and the ring is not welded to the gear and the whole installation costed me a little less than my Dinan2. The little problem we had was he had to shave the outer casing a bit in order to put the quaife in. BMW is cutting some corners and making the housing smaller n smaller. The installation took about 4hrs and I used the XAF SJ fluid which BMW puts in the M3 Diffs. No leaks, No weird sounds The best part of quaife...No clutch which means very less maintainence and wear and tear but the bad part is it doesn't work if you are doing stunts on the racetrack and the car is in the air Also no need to lower the sub frame on 135 for quaife installation which means less work. Regarding the experience, I'll let you guys decide after reading mine and others. The ratio is 3.46 and my car accl faster(I can say screams) in a st line with Dinan 2 and all the power is put to the ground with lot less tire spin and no stupid dsc interfering Drifting on snow fields is a dream with both the rear wheels locking and I look for empty snow areas these days. I had to relearn the car a bit and still learning to understand how the car behaves. The best part on the road I like is when there is no traffic I cut the corner aggressively and with no brake applied the car rips but one has to be careful about oncoming traffic. Other fun things I do are entering the highways if there are empty at an angle drifting and turning 180 degrees on empty roads and let my LSD and KWv2's do the work I have just sold my stock wheels and I am not sure how long my Light Breyton GTSR's and my Eagle F1 tires are going to hold I still can't understand why BMW let this car without an LSD. Expensive mod? YES. Worth it? TOTALLY Last edited by coolguy; 01-27-2009 at 12:10 PM.. |

Any word from your installer as to how much the install would be on the manual's welded gear ring? I'm assuming there is going to be a significant difference in material costs as well, right? Thanks for sharing man, you definitely make the LSD sound fun!!!
