Squeaking from the back of the car?

Every time I get in or out of the car, I can hear a loud creaking/squeaking in the rear. It is on both sides. Very annoying. I can push down on the trunk and it will squeak up and down. Getting progressively worse.

What could it be?

Handbrake guaranteed. Next time you drive don't set it at all and see if you get the same noise.

I get the same noise. And I just had the shocks replaced. Noise was before and after the shocks were replaced. I am going to try the handbrake test mentioned earlier.
If it is the handbrake, I guess it needs adjustment?

It's not the handbrake. I know the sound you're talking about, it's not that. I'll try to take a video.

Resurrecting this thread. Did you determine what it is? Solution?
I ask because I am now experiencing it and it seems to be getting worse.

It seems to come mainly from the rear, especially when first starting to drive after being parked for a while (I do park with handbrake on). It usually happens in reverse, but I usually park head-in, so that also coincides with first starting out when having been parked a while.

It is a decidedly metallic creaking sound.

My suspension is stock except for bushing inserts.

No fix yet. Still have the same annoying noise. I'll try to take a video of it sometime soon.

For me it's the handbrake. Has been and I can't get rid of it. I only use the handbrake when parking on a hill now. It's embarrassing.

Mine is not the handbrake. I also have a squeaking handbrake, but the noise I'm referring to is suspension related.

It's probably the trailing arm bushings. I was told that could have been what my noise was. Then I did the E-brake test and that got rid of it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
