Blacked out Corners and Grill
I have had this done for about 2 weeks now and have had no issues. I used a black vinyl to cover the amber side markers. Sorry for the bad pics and the car is really dirty......
I used SEM exterior gloss black paint for a simple DIY of the Shadow grills. They came out good, but for HIN in December I will have to go with the OEM Shadow grills. Side pic with 20% tint.

i like the black corners. looks nice. much better than clear corners in my opnion. black corners make the headlights look smaller. yellow corners make the headlights look smaller. clear corners make the headlights look bigger.
does it make harder for people to see your blinkers though?

I only covered the reflector part. The clear part of the light is the Turn signal and the yellow is the reflector. Quote:

you need to white out. not black out, you have a white car. it's too much contrast.
i hate the blackout grilles too. cheap looking. while i'm on the topic of hate, i'm also not a fan of blacked out rims. they remind me of spare tires. & no it's not a white black thing.

Looks better then that dumb amber but im not sure if i like it or not. The first pic looks really good. The second one isnt bad. The third looks strange with the tint from the side.
Is there anyway to get white vinyl or maybe paint it white? someone do a photoshop with those 3 pics in white vinyl. I think color matched to the car would look cool cause it will just blend in and keep that factory look. the black really shows you are just covering something up. Overall looks good and well done. now we just need eyelids for the headlights and we will be perfect. |

Can you please take a pic from the front of the car (both headlights in the pic). I wonder what this would look like on a black 135i

I was planning to go this route on my AW too but now seeing it in pics I think I agree with one of the posters that its too much contrast.
I cant say what would look better IMO, maybe white corners, or maybe allowing some of the amber to show on the black. Perhaps just a tint to subdue the amber. Not sure. The grill is killer though, everyone should have shadowline grills. |

Dude I like the grilles, they are going to be one of my first mods, but i am not feeling the corners. I think they are too dark. Maybe with a lighter tint?

not a fan of that mod... If you are going to balck out the orange at the front, you also need to black out the red at the bad... IMO it looks unbalanced...
FYI I am in no way recommending blacking out any lights esp break lights.

That will look much better I'm sure.
I hate to say it, but the blacked out looked corners would worry the hell out of me anyway because there is a huge chance that you would not be seen by another car in bad weather...

I posted in another thread, "With all the attention given to little amber reflectors, how is it red taillights are exempt from criticism? I really don't get it?" What's the fuss?
