Mine vibrates when the road is rough, naturally, but other than that, no problem with mine.

Mine shakes at 40-50m/hr speed. My car is with the dealer for the second time. First time they said the balance was out on the front wheels, it should be okay now. Well that did not work, so I took it back again today. He called me back and told me they have to replace a power steering part, which they have ordered and will not be in until Thursday.

I think this is a known issue with E90, if they do not fix it this time and make another attempt, they go under Lemon law and I get a new car or money back. I am very disappointed with my first BMW.

Do you know if that lemon law applies to Virginia? How can I check?

Noticeable steering wheel shake between 40-50 MPH. Until reading this thread I just assumed it was caused by a wheel balance issue. I'll be keeping tabs on this thread to see what develops.

Is this noticed in cars only with or without Active Steering?

I think Lemon Law is national...the gist of it is the car goes in 3 times for the same repair with no solution, OR, the car is in the dealers possession for over 30 days continuous.

Lemon laws are specific by state, they exist in all states but each state has their own restrictions.

My source of that information is my friend who does warranty/lemon law claims for Jaguar corporate office.

When I picked up the car I had no shake.
Then I removed the wheels to install my mudflaps and ended up with a very slight shake/vibration.
I had not torqued them but rather used the wrench from my e46 to remove and reinstall the wheels. So I went out and sprung for a torque wrench ($65) and torqued them to 70 ft-lbs. I'm back to no shake.

You probably didn't intall the wheels correctly.... I think
We are probably talking about different type of shake

I didn't uninstall and then reinstall. I simply loosened the lugs one at a time and then torqued. Nevertheless may be a different shake.

I've mentioned before that improper torquing of the wheel bolts can contribute to this problem. I never drive away from any service where the wheels have been off the car without re-torquing the bolts with my own torque wrench.

Maybe someone should try this? But the factory does this.

Hey Scott,
I talked with the service manager today. They replaced the steering rack and still the problem is not fixed. Basically they do not have a fix for it today. He asked me to pick my vehicle up and I said I am not picking it up until it is fixed, no matter how small the issue is, it is a BMW and should be perfect.

He is waiting to hear back from BMW to solve this issue. At this point he does not have a fix and the car might be sitting with the dealer for a while till they find anything about it. Not sure what you are going to do.

I am getting inclined towards getting my money back.

Let me know what action you would take.

Cheers,
Rocky
